Bought two of these from EBAY for a few bucks to try them out, then after I found they were what I wanted. So I ordered 20 more. they are about 6" long and flexible, plus they are backed with 3M adhesive. I have 15 reds and 15 blues. They are super bright. I will be mounting them either above or below the foot rests to light up the yak for night fishing. I will then mount a low profile toggle switch out of the way. Just waiting for the snow to melt off the car and kayak!

Jeff

*UPDATE!*

I got bored and went out and worked on the yak in the 28 degree temperature (31 in the garage). Played around trying to find the  best spot to mount the lights. I'd like to add a few more but I dont want too much crap on the kayak. Let me know what you guys think.

more?  i dont think you need to light it up like the pimpmobile buddy =)

blue + yellow = green, maybe some yellow transparent tape will make it look like you've got bonafide running lights!  i think i am just going to try to find a black light + suction cups for night fishing.

I know they have UV LED's but these strips are pretty cool http://www.amazon.com/Violet-MOTORCYCLE-BRIGHT-FLEXIBLE-Aquarium/dp/B002SG1O40 Imagine a strip on the side of your yak to summon bait fish?  Or maybe fitting a battery inside a paddle and a make your whole paddle light up?

Pretty cool idea Jeff. It's giving me some ideas too. Hopefully those white/blue LEDs don't attract skeeters like the normal white LEDs do (on my headlamp). In which case, you could probably alter the color w/transparent red tape like Ben mentioned (skeeters aren't attracted to red lights as much).

I think it would be cool if installed inside the kayak hull  :smt003

Looks cool Jeff,
Only question would be if it interfears with your night vision ability.
Looks like a great idea otherwise

My thoughts on this are you will be looking into the light , which will limit your night vision overall. My thoughts would have been maybe to position them more rear ward with a focus of canting the light forward looking.  I don't know if you can find some plastic stripping (L shaped) of some sort and make something that would reduce the amount of light that goes upward towards you, and concentrate into the hull.  This may reduce affecting your night vision.  Having some sort of lip over the lights would help.  my $.02

X-mas kayak I love it :smt044 Just kidding Great Idea but your lighting up your toes I know I can't bend that far and my eyes aren't as good as they used to be . I might copy the Idea but closer. Also a second set front and back with separate switch if your out all night to light extra for the sleepy PB's
