I am staying at the Inn of the Lost Coast mainly because I am bringing Molly and I stayed there last year. After seeing all of the motels last year, the Inn of the Lost Coast was the nicest although it is a mile or so from the launch. The rooms have a full sized fridge and freezer and a great view of the lost coast. It also has a coffe shop and pizza place which are pretty good. The best food was at the potluck followed by the store at the campground. Surprisingly good burgers and fish and chips there.

Thanks for the info Sonny.

I couldn't get a hold of anyone from Mario's Marina Motel. Would've like a room there since it's so close to the action. The campground has plenty of space left. However, I booked a room at Inn of the Lost Coast since the rate is not too bad ($125/night and possibly with some group discount).

I guess I'll see you there Scott.

I was able to get a room at Mario's Marina Motel. (Good deal. $110/night already includes tax)

ONE MORE MONTH,
I for one can't wait  :smt003

teams I know,

Hope it's not too late. Just got clearance from the wife. Check is in the mail today.

Definitely not too late - welcome to the GS4 Madness.   :smt004

I'd be up there with my 12 yr old. He wants to catch some abs ;)

He should be able to do that - a wetsuit is important but not absolutely necessary.

Again, not too late.   :smt001

Question on place to stay. Could someone suggest a place? Motel or campground would be ok.

I see you got in at the motel by the cleaning station - that IS really close to the action, and I've stayed there before.  The potluck is a couple hundred yards west at The Tides Inn - easy walk.

Regarding food, are we pretty much on our own? Is there some sort of a group meal planned?

You're on your own for food except for Saturday night's potluck and awards - bring something to share.  Otherwise, the campground deli - right across the street from your motel - has lots of good hot food (one of the only places I'll buy fish and chips), beer, picnic supplies...etc., and the general store 5 minutes up the hill has other basic grocery stuff.  I'd bring some food, live off deli, enjoy the potluck, and crash gourmet camps like Fish Master1's and KayakJack's.   :smt003

Sorry for all these questions. This thread is getting too long. Kinda hard to mine info out of.

Good one!   :smt044  Last year's thread finally died 2 weeks after the event and was 56 pages.   :smt005

Eric, have you decided on the tourney format yet?
teams I know,
long fish, 3 longest fish, AOTD point system?

The teams are for safety and spirit - we'll score individually.

AOTD point system.  Your longest fish per species will count for points, and a bonus "inch" worth of points is allowed for C&R (as long as a good photo was taken).  So if you get a 30" lingcod, a 20" black, a 20" greenling, and a 20" cab you would score (30x5) + (20x7) + (20x11) + (20x7) for a score of 650.  If you released the ling and the cab you'd add 12 more points.  If you released all fish you'd be in the running for a "special prize" to be issued by "Abking".   :smt004

And don't forget the "other" species on the list...   :smt002

Here's the list:

Scoring Scale

Rockcod = 7 pts/in
Cabezon = 7 pts/in
Salmon = 5 pts/in
Halibut = 5 pts/in
Ling = 5 pts/in
Trout = 7 pts/in
Smallmouth = 9 pts/in
Largemouth = 8 pts/in
Sturgeon = 3 pts/in
Striped Bass = 5 pts/in
Lake (Mackinaw) Trout = 6 pts/in
Kokanee = 10 pts/in
Catfish = 5 pts/in
Panfish = 12 pts/in
Spotted Bass = 8 pts/in
Steelhead = 6 pts/in
White Seabass = 4 pts/in
Flounder = 8 pts/in
Greenling = 11 pts/in
Surf Perch = 12 pts/in

Is there a max number of species we're allowed to enter? Like a max of 4 species, or is it as many as you can catch?

Hmmm...  It may be time to do some research into potential stocked ponds up in the pot-growin' country near the Cove...   :smt002

Seriously though, I think catching a lingcod, cabezon, greenling and rockfish will be enough of a challenge (although I caught all but the cab yesterday while salmon trolling!   :smt005).  If someone could catch a "bonus" fish it would likely be a flattie or a perch.   :smt001

By "flattie" I assume you mean halibut. But there are also mighty flounders out there too! I caught a 19" rock sole last July.  :smt002

I'll accept late registrations through May 1st for the $25 entry price.  I can't promise you a free t-shirt for that, but I'll try.  Those who've said the check's in the mail (lucky13 and maybe a few others) I'll make sure you get a shirt if your check arrives soon.

Eric Stockwell
PO Box 432
Loleta, CA  95551

I'll have a few additional black t-shirts with the blue graphics that I'll give to late entries, and I'll have a limited number of white long sleevers for sale for $20 - they're gonna be cool.   :smt001

Folks who have mentioned along the way that they want additional shirts - sorry I didn't record those requests.  I'm on a mission here, and keeping track of everyone's additional requests takes a backseat to overall organization.  Hopefully everyone who wants additional shirts will get one.  I'm making the black t's with the blue graphics for tournee entries, and I'm making a limited number of the long sleeve white t's for those who want extra shirts.  The white t's cost substantially more - that's why they'll be $20.  I went into this saying I'd raffle off any monies from entries over and above receipts for the shirts, the boat, plates/napkins/forks/trash bags for the potluck.  Now that I'm getting the additional shirts I need to amend and say that any monies I get from the white shirts will go to pay for the white shirts and excess from that sales effort will build the GS5 fund, which is my wallet.   :smt001  It's still the case that I'll raffle off excess from the registrations after the black shirt receipts, boat, potluck stuff...etc.  I may even raffle off a couple of the white shirts - it will all come together and work out.   :smt006

Here's a basic accounting, and I will be pleased to provide the full accounting at the tournee:

entries so far (including me) - 56 x $25 = $1400
grand prize - Trident Angler 15            = ($650)
70 black T's                                     = ($600)

So right now there's $150 for potluck supplies, some lamination sleeves for media I'll give out at the event, and any other tournee related items.  Additional registrations (I expect at least 10) will provide  money for some cash handouts at the awards potluck - that'll be cool to basically refund someone's entry and pay for some of their gas and beer.   :smt001

I'm starting to get excited about this...   :smt048 :kick :metal 8) :cheers:
