My 2009 goals were:
Bring my 4-year old fishing more this year and take him camping at least twice this summer.

Slay some hog with my TC Encore pistol.

Catch some halibut (they've been my devil fish the past few years).

Drop 20 lb's... while well insulated for winter sturgeon fishing, I too am a fat son of a buck right now.

Buy a bigger house with a bigger yard and more storage (that's a stretch goal).

1.  Check... I did bring Carson fishing quite a few times but our camping trip got cancelled due to the lame closure of lake Mendo campgrounds.  We did camp in the back yard a couple times, which is just about as good for a 4-year old.

2.  Check... Hogs didn't stand a chance http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,20699.0.html  Also shot a whitetail doe in WI for a bonus.

3.  Check... good ol' Tomales bay.  Should have had two, but went home with one.

4.  Dropped 30... thank you BLOTY!  But I'm still kind of chunky and could stand to lose a few more lbs.

5.  Check... moved in in June and it's been just about the perfect place for our family and lifestyle. Couldn't have worked out better.

2009 was a good year... very busy... but very good.  I'm blessed.  Here's to a great 2010.

Ya'all will love these, let the bullets begin:

"Fish Less, Ride more - and do Climb to Kaiser, death ride, and auburn "century""

well only ended  up doing the C2K this year...but i did ride about 15K miles....

"Show up at at least one NCKA gathering"

Ouch! NO.

"Fish with at least one other person and have a beer afterwards"
fished with one other person, but no beer afterwards- ouch

"Take my 2 year old fishing"
hopefully crawdading counts...

one for mooch-- take pics on every trip
I think i only had one exception here- a quck striper trip back in oct

Three out of six for me, YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

I did bring home more halibut this year than last and felt like I learned a lot to improve my strategy of catching and (more importantly) landing those fish.

Mid season I mentally added "catch a trophy ling" to the list and eventually succeeded in bringing home a 23 pound lingzilla (which was delicious-ate the last of the fillets last Friday , Cal Asian Rockfish-style)

but most satisfying was "fishing more than 20 trips". I ended up making that plus a couple. :headbang:

******************************************************************************

I think for 2010 I'm going to use the "20 days" as a goal again, but this time around I'll try to focus on increasing the variety of the trips with new launches and *gasp* maybe some freshwater.

Or, I may say "to hell with goal oriented approaches!" and allow the year to unfold as lifestyle, which will probably accomplish the same thing :smt044.

All in all, 2009 was the best year of fishing in my life.  Met a lot of great people.  Caught a lot of new species of fish, some new PB.  My son caught a 5# rainbow as his first fish on his flyrod, took Gabe fishing with me a lot, and he caught his first halibut and leopard shark on kayak, the list goes on and on.  Bought my daughter a kayak, and she caught many trout on it all by herself, and became very proficient at paddling her yak.  Finishing the year with hooping for lobsters, something I have wanted to do for years, and on a chartered boat, I caught a large male sheephead fish, a fish I have been after for 6 years.  So 2009 was a great year.  I can only imagine what 2010 has to offer!

In reference to Tote fishing 30 times, and losing twenty pounds..

Ok I raise your 30 to 52, and 20 lbs to 40 lbs, and also need to catch a halibut.  I actually have a shot at 2 out of 3

I didnt get out 52 times but that was mostly due to weather, 30 did happen though.  I finally broke the halibut drought, catching more this year than my entire lifes count.

on the weight.... :smt013

2009 kinda sucked for me, fishing wise.  I didn't land one legal ling, and no halibut at all.  But I made quite a few new friends and got to hang out with some oldies but goodies. For that I'd say that 2009 was a winner.  I know that with my anticipated '10 schedule, i'll fish even less, but hopefully continue the trend of meeting new yakfishing homies and enjoying the company of old ones

can you imagine how many more fish you would catch if you were actually organized?

i didn't make any 2009 goals, but if I did, I think I would have met them.  My resolution every year is the same.

Have fun!

I have to make the same resolution again this year--keep an accurate fishing log. I've got an excel chart to track important trip details...but it's only filled-in up to March lol. So, yeah, I'm gonna try it again this year.

Hmmm....surprisingly I didn't post in the original thread, but I'm sure my goals would've been to fish more (which I have), go to The Ranch, (which I did), and to have a sic avatar picture of me with a 50lb roosterfish when I got back, (which I didn't do.)

My only goal for next year is to be the best father I can be.  and to go back to The Ranch and get that rooster!

In Loving Memory of Mooch, Eelmaster, Shicken, and Cabeza De Martillo

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...
