me , keo and another buddy went on the hunt around pittsburg last week and around 430 in the mornin at slack tide i seen my line do some strange things , i reeled up slack , set hook and was locked into a beast that refused to move for about 5 minutes , i started pumping him in and he was slowly swaying back n forth not realizing he was in danger , then he/she went on a rampage and this video is the end result , felt horrible!! still not over it.

my mono leader was from last season and it was a rookie mistake not to check it , keep in mind that towards the end of this video my drag was at full , this fish was powerful

Sorry you lost a BIG one Andy.  I'll check my leader everytime going Sturgeon fishing from now on.  Thanks for the video clip.

I've lost 'em due to the leader issue before myself, now I use a new leader after every fish except for dinks.  It's cheap insurance.

I think you need to use the F-word a little more next time.  That'll probably help.

Man, that was a nice dino.  Ultimately what led to losing the fish, operator error or gear malfunction?

operator error

ive seen alot of people try to snare sturgeon with the same motions as if they were gaffing the fish ( swooping then lifting the fish into the boat as the snare tightens down), what happens is that the fish explodes then wiggles itself out , thats what happend in the video , what works for me is to snare the fish down lift to make the noose tight then keep the fish in the water so it can use its last burst of energy then i boat it.
