I am sitting in my office, watching the wind just flat get it on!  The rain is coming in sideways, and can only think, is there anyone out there in their kayak braving this weather today?

There is no freakin' way!  I took the 7:10am ferry from Larkspur into S.F. this morning and we ended up turning around.  It was one of the catamaran boats and the bow started BURYING into the waves near S.F.  I have no idea where we were exactly, but the captain came on and asked everyone to move to the back of the boat becase of all the water we were taking over the bow.  He sounded NERVOUS when he made the announcement also!  Then as we are turning around he comes on again to say "hold on, we are going to take some waves to the side."  The most nervous I've ever been on a boat, that's for sure!  Once back in Larkspur, had the option to jump on the "Spaulding" boat (bigger, mono-hull, etc.) but said "no thanks!"  Working from home now...

I would be in the port of sac, no problem.  There is a nice protected area that holds a lot of stripers.  The south bank in the turning basin is usually protected from wind too.  I just am cozy warm, and dry, in my office wondering if legends are being made out there today.

there is a fine line between legend and plain stupid. In conditions like this you get in trouble and the rescue ppl may have reservations about going out.

No fun to be had out there today. The bottom fish will all be hunkered down in there holes, and the halibut have moved to deeper water until this is over.

Still, I keep seeing that pic of Steve Sinclair surfing a monster deep water storm swell....I guess you could troll a line behind a 20 foot surfski? Of course, you might not come back....

Steve, that totally counts.  You are a legend my friend.  Now, how are you getting home?

Because my office is in the deep redwoods, just getting to the parking lot is taking my life in my own hands.  the path is littered with widowmakers.

This weekend is supposed to be nice, what will that do for the fishing in various areas?  I am expecting the foothill lakes to be mudded up too bad. What about the rockfish?

I was out in Monterey all day yesterday and it was creepy-flat. No other boats out and FAC conditions...maybe the flattest water I've ever had in the ocean. Watching the dark clouds develop offshore was a trip. It was really strange being out there. And now it's supposed to be 10-14ft swells inside MBay..? Rain still coming down pretty hard. Who am I kidding, I'm not even going to poop-scoop when I get home tonight LOL....the dog will have to hold it for the next few days.
In October, the rain sucks...but 2 more months and this will be called Steelhead Weather!!!

Here at Moss Landing you might as well have been in the eye of a typhoon...sustained winds out of the South at 30kt gusting to 40kt with sideways rain coming down in heavy sheets.Kayak rentals were closed.

I'll save my legend-making for survivable days at sea. :smt003

I was seriously considering LMB fishing WEd. I've caught some of my best fish in the middle of a storm
