Mack, Sardine and a Jacksmelt on one cast of the sabiki  :smt005

Dave, Chuck and myself decided to give our backyard a try. We were lazy and didn't get sure thing bait the night before. Chuck only made 2pcs @ arrowhead on the way down. We hit the water with frozen squid and 2 small topsmelt. After awhile Chuck found some bait and we started making/using it. There were a good number of Dines, Macks and Jacksmelt all mixed in. We all missed  many opportunities with shredded baits. The fish were there and we saw them being caught. Will definitely use a stinger for those macks next time.

You deserve an honorable mention in the AOTYA--few people every get three distinct species on one line let alone three different genuses (geni?).

You totally had me with your header about the trifecta!! I wanted to chase those WSB myself last week and thought you had pulled it off with a halibut and striper as well! Oh well nice job on the bait though.

I've lost many bites myself this year due to the big bait and then when I rig with a stinger I don't seem to get as many bites. I don't know what the answer is but I've been using 3/0 gamakatsu octopus hooks with the bigger dines and macks and letting the fish eat for between a five and a ten count and still miss most of them!

Thanks for the report Sharky!

I was already mentally packing my gear...

Good to see that you're getting out OTW, Sharky.  I think I'll hit it this weekend... it's been awhile since I've fished that area.

Good report. PICS? The little guys deserve a photo!
pisci, I have a waterproof camera in the mail, so soon there will be more pornpost from me.

Surfing Marmot, I hadnt looked at it like that...thanx.

Also, Chuck found the bait thick on the inside (north side) of the outer wall, about half way down, close in to the wall. there were also scattered schools out beyond the end towards the marker poles. It seems we had takedowns near where we saw these scattered schools on the outside. Theres bait there. Theres fish there, and the water is still warm with decent vis.

Yeah, even pics of raked bait are fun...it's like an episode of SVU (sardine victims unit)...and everybody loves a good mystery fish!

With Insaneduane hard at work an unable tu fish, one of my spy's agreed to catch bait that very night. Part of what Sharkinsteen left out includes that, the previous eve we caught and kept alive 80+pieces of bait, via an 50 gal. tub back of shark's truck, met up with Brian B., did not pull the trigger on the 5 am launch, and watched me rip a gasket of one of my dry suit legs. Not for a moment letting the ongoing challenges of my VHF having a bad antenna, and zero range, cracked cable on by transducer Puck, chronic blind fishing, my spy an my self launched at 730 @ ARW. After farming a flatty or 2, as Shark alluded, I told my spy that this was a mission of redemption. This spy a member of the camera phone, and dig camera clan, has promised to post a couple  pics of my latest magic hallie. Nothing like the grand slams at Bean, or FisHunter, or what happened at Lindamar, but for me, it felt good to paddle past the second wall, paddle past channel marker 7 and work the living crap out of an area we continue to see flatties leave. 23.25 in. 13+lbs.
Paradise in Nov. but between now and then flatties continue to exit ARW.

Have I mentioned how much I love your reports, Dave?  I don't understand how you pack so much info, comedy, and imagery in so few words.
