I am a newbie looking to purchase a Prowler 13 or Cobra Fish N Dive.  The link below is for a used Cobra with high back seat and paddle for $800 on Craigslist.  I've seen some in the LA area for cheaper (600-700), and I realize that supply is harder to come by here (and maybe increased demand).  Not even sure if it's appropriate to post such requests for advice here...
But can anyone tell me what is considered a "fair price" for such an outfit? (used Cobra FND, high back seat and paddle).  The paddle new would cost $70.

If you have any other related advice, would appreciate it.  I'd like to get my kayak and gear asap and get out on the water.  I will admit that I have not rented any kayaks to test it out, and the only kayak I've paddled on was a sit-in kayak for a kayak paddling class.

I think a current member (bajareefer) is selling his Cobra FnD for $575. That's a pretty good price. It's buried in this post here: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,20084.0.html

Those 2 boats are really different from each other, not sure why you're focusing on those 2 but there are a few places in the bay area that have on the water or near the water facilities where you could test paddle a number of boats in one place without breaking the bank.

There's so much to consider before buying, but those questions can be answered pretty quickly (one day dedicated to shopping) by a good rep from one of those establishments.

I'd suggest some on the water reasearch.

Good Luck, your questions are very appropriate, you are in the right place.......

They got one here for 649  http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=20403.0;topicseen
The way I look at it 25% off for a kayak up to a year old in good shape 50% off at 2yrs unless it has rarely been used then maybe 10% less each year after that again unless it hasn't seen much use.

Also remember there are 2 F&Ds the older one and the XF which has better mounting surfaces for rod holders etc.

All very good advice.  thx much.  I hope to have kayak in tow shortly, and what I've learned on this site has truly been helpful.  If Steve is willing to throw in the fish blood AND answer 249 questions I have about rigging the yak and fishing tactics, we may have a deal...   :smt001

Steve, you're welcome to use my Marauder this weekend. I'll be at HMB but I'll be a land lubber for the day.
