met up with stache around 7-ish at leffingwell we also had one of his buddies, my neighbor and a friend of his ... only video i took is pretty much in here - let's just leave it that im a rookie at making vids

back to the fishing ...i headed north to hit one of my fave spots while stache and his buddy headed straight out - my first was a 19" cabbie followed by a nice brown so i headed back to the group.  as i was approaching i couldn't tell if stache had something or was snagged in the kelp - as it turned out it was both.  he was able to pull it up - check the vid.  a few minutes later same thing happened to me but mine broke off.  we were using jigs and swimbaits ... all mine came on jigs ... i think stache and i both hit limits but only took what we needed - stache's buddy had 4 or 5 as well

good conditions and another great day otw

Thanks for the post, my son starts at Cal Poly this month, looks like I may be down there every once in awhile....

You ever try the kelp bed just a mile or so north of Cayucos, looks like a fiar launch spot there just below the big turnout.

Hey JK,  I had a blast fishing yesterday.  Don't underestimate your video abilities.  The video was great and shot like you've done it hundreds of times before.  Well I'm off to make some Snapper Vera Cruz with yesterday's catch as soon as I pick some fresh jalapenos and tomatoes.

the intent wasn't to keep you in suspense ... i needed to use that footage to fill up the length of the song :D
although the 5 or so minutes we were waiting were a bit suspenseful and hoping to see a huge ling come up ... those cabbies put up great fights though

Dale and GF - when you are coming down this way please let us know - you can also post on cayucossportfishing.com and arrange some hookups that way - a few of us cencal folks post here and there when we are heading out ... the other site isn't really a forum so to speak though

My cousin is playing footbal for Poly and Saturday is the season opener. I was going to bring my Kayak down there and try Shell, but I saw pics of a White eating a harber seal in the kelp in Cambria from two weeks ago on another forum.  Did you here anything about that when you were down there? When I was going to Poly I used to fish the kelp out side of Avila alot, and I used to have people on boat asks me all the time if I saw the shark, then a lady got killed one time I was out there. I'm not sure if I am going to fish next weekend, especailly if the is a shark hanging out. EWven though Cambria is a distance away those things travel.

Taylor - we were out there for 5 hours and didn't see anything.... then again I've never seen anything resembling a GWS while on my yak.  There will always be GWS reports in this area during this time of year - a few weeks back it was in port san luis.   I paddled upon a dead seal in port san luis days after that report and that made me scratch my head enough to get to another spot.  I've never felt threatened any place along the central coast.

My personal POV is that sharks are always in the water where we fish.  I don't bleed my fish on my yak and don't leave anything hanging over the side ... at least this way I feel I limit the potential of a seal or shark screwing with me.
