These might we l have been posted before  (maybe by Sean since he has one of this type of boat) but I haven't seen them.
Now I know why they call their boats surf or fishing skis.

Now when I launch I'll have the final countdown going in my head . Which will then turn to circus music .

Only if your launch goes into the spin cycle  :smt003

Yep--they have to get on, get off, and get back on quickly and safely--gear makes that tougher and slows you down and can hit you during the tumble.. I know deck lines can hang up hooks, but I am leaving mine on the T-15 to make it easier to grab.

They did have a rep here for a while. They are tough to rig--internal bulkheads for safety means cutting and refinishing fibreglas. I corresponded with a guy in SoCal who had a Macski he had to mount his transducer with a suction cup and most of the electronics was exposed. But he thought is was temporary until he figured things out. But I liked it for another reason--it makes you keep things simple and the bulkheads keep it floating. I'd still like to get one one day too.

This one shows a lot of people having a lot of trouble at a fishing tourney--makes ELk look placid eh?

Those guys and gals are studs and studettes for conquering launches and landings like that.
Just goes to show the possibilities.
I bet it would be a bit more difficult if the water temp was 49 degrees.

actually you could find yourself looking at a lot worse around here

Definitely true if you end up needing to land on the nearest beach/landing due to emergency or you stay out too long and conditions change a lot while you are out there. Remember though, these are good conditions for them to launch--this is as good as it gets for them.

if you do, sometimes the best option is to swim your yak in

Grab the rear toggle and push the boat in ahead of you but just be careful when a break hits to align yourself so as not to get whacked on and smash into you kayak.

Those launches looked like fun!  In a SIK that is :)

I still can't stop thinking that those blunt bows are just killing the kayaks momentum.

When will Valley or Nigel Dennis design a fishing kayak...

Maybe Bluekayak has the right idea about building one.

I think it is a market ROI issue. A number of kayak manufacturers tried making SOT fishing kayaks in composite or fiberglas materials but the price points tended to be close to or over $2k and that appears to have reduced the demand materially and those products were cancelled. The  Current Designs Altura is an example and it was pretty wide for my taste--I want SOT Romany but just a bit wider than 21.5 inches and stable so I don't need the paddle in my hands. I'll probably have to make it myself if I ever develop the skill. I thought the Kashkazi (or whatever it was called) that Sean had was a pretty good compromise. Not sure why those didn't become popular other than price.

Scott, I agree the blunt bow slows it but it also prevents the bow from pearling and keeps the kayak from broaching as you can see on some of the landings. A sharper bow is faster going out which is important but tend to pearl or certainly to cause more broaching unless you learn a really good combo high-brace stern rudder or something. It's a kayaking skill issue and most kayak fisherman want to fish not learn advanced kayak skills so that would really reduce the marketability of an expensive composite fishing kayak even further. And now with the MPLAs I think ocean fishing kayak demand in california is going to drop.

It is an unfortunate situation as far as I am concerned.

Yes, I still think Norcal has tougher launches than Socal. Just like how NZ & S. Africa have tougher launches than Norcal. It's all relative.

And yeah, I'm gonna be hearing Final Countdown before pushing through surf too haha. Except instead of circus music transition, it'll be more akin to Benny Hill music hahahaha!
