It's because the left is running the state. So sad!

The right and left are the same thing. Just damage in different ways.

If you scour the old fishing report archives you will find very few reports from areas that are going to be closed.

people who fish a lot of these spots aren't coastsiders or nckaers and aren't broadcasting it anyplace, especially on the wide-open internet

And funded by a big conservative industrial corporation.  And in the Fort Bragg area vehemently opposed to by hell bent to the left enviros who think this is a play by big money to get fisherman and others off the water, so that big oil can start drilling off the coast.

The right wing / left wing label is history at this point.  There's just reactionaries and others that think.  If you're jerking around because of labels, you're not thinking.

Why "get fishermen and others off the water"? How would that help?

I sincerely hope the "Fort Bragg area left enviros" are successful in their fight against all the environmental groups that are behind the IPA.

Although I was joking-not-jerking around in my above post, Thanks a bunch for the "not thinking" insult. I guess that's what I deserve for getting involved in the MLPA process shortly before it was announced to be a waste of time. Lotsa luck with the closures up there. You didn't really want to keep fishing and diving anyway? jim

Sorry to get your hackles up Jim, I guess I wasn't clear.  I was intending to point out that both the "left" and the "right" labels aren't really working anymore and there's lunacy on both sides.  We need to figure out what we want and and leave the labels out.

That's my point: these folks are nuts.  They also stridently opposed the wave energy projects proposed here, complete opposite of what you'd think they would support.  They are left-wing reactionaries.

Sorry you were insulted about the thinking comment, but I stand by it:  We need to concentrate on what we want and not alienate potential supporters by throwing around knee jerk labels that piss people off.  From what we have experienced, they are irrelevant.  Actually, I really wasn't thinking about anything you posted when I wrote this.

Also:  I'm going to try to get nominated for the regional stakeholders group up here.....if I can.  And I'm not left or right; I'm a kayak fisher, diver and surfer, and I hope to get the best deal I can given that background.

I also believe partisan politics/labels should be verbotten here on the fishing planet. Actually said as much on the recent "ocean acidification" thread. I was not the one who brought it up on this thread, although I did respond with my 2$, but in the aftermath of the meeting I expected a little finger pointing and I don't begrudge anyone for venting. I voted for Arnie thinking I knew his "limitations", he's a RINO, but I never would have dreamed he would appoint someone as foul as Mr.B to ensure part of his "legacy". How naive I was. What I'm hoping for you and your area is closure de minimus. Sean has stated that fishermen should now walk away from the process and not participate, but he also has stated that early on it could have gone more favorably for us in this area. My gut feeling is if fishermen do walk away then they will get the new incarnation of proposal 4/enviro's wet dream/ and the typical Cali voter will swallow the enviro propaganda & say "Yeah, save the fishies!" if a repeal ever goes to ballot. I can visualize the t.v. ads even now. Please don't tell me you're sorry as I wasn't really insulted, and honestly my hackles are always up, but thanks for the clarification. Good luck with the nomination. You have my support. jim

I feel your pain Craig.  It also one of my favorite spots on the N. Coast.  I almost threw up when I heard on Friday.  I knew it was coming but there was still this glimmer of hope that maybe 2XA would come out on top.  Thanks SBD.  I know you did the best you could.  I hope you guys know how hard Sean tried to save it for us.  I think my CEN CAL brothers hit the nail on the head when they told me it was over before it even started.  Sea Ranch here we come!!!  JZUMI went up last week with Dan Rujan and shot a 9+ lb red.  I say we have some exploring to do.

Right on Dave. At the Santa Rosa meeting A rep for the sea ranch even volunteered additional sea ranch properties to keep the north end of salt point open for fear of divers and fishermen invading their area. On to sea ranch.

Bigeye...WHATS UP DUDE!!!!!  Indeed Sea Ranch here I come.  Lets go together soon, I need therapy.

As far as walking away/win-able early on...both are true.  Had Likins not fucked it up, we could have had no alternative that was unacceptable.  That said, the further things wennt, the worse it got.  The commision switch at the end being the final straw.  Indeed, its so bad now, that I think its time to walk.

None of the viable alternatives closed anything in Salt Point, they all closed Sea Ranch.  The folks at Sea Ranch even came to the meetings WANTING a reserve there.  The enviros wanted it at Salt Point, because the access at Sea Ranch sucks so bad its already a reserve...but they couldn't get any traction on closing SP.

So they recruited "famous diver" Jack Lickins to join them. Closing Salt Point then gained momentum as it had "cross support" aka enviros and consumptives.  Jack joined the enviros and conspired with them because his favorite honey hole is in Sea Ranch.

Maybe about 80 divers should go pick his honey hole dry for him

If you read his emails between Samantha Murray and Francesca Koe you would want to see him on the end of a flopper tip.  What kills me is they still sell his #$%^& video at Outdoor Pro Shop.  I have tried to get them to stop selling it and they don't listen.
