In this case misery doesn't love company.  The same MLPA BS is going on here south of Point Conception.  Several of my favorite and closest fishing spots are being considered for closure.  I was asked for and gave my input as a kayak fisherman as part of their information gathering process, but I doubt it made any difference.  Heck, I told them where I liked to fish, it may have hurt!  I have become quite cynical.
To tell the truth, no matter what gets closed, I'll still go out kayak fishing.  Fishing some barren flat, catching fish or not, I love doing it.  My condolences.....

I've only been there once, but from what I can remember Stengel Beach pretty much looked like paradise when I was there. I have no idea what the WX was the day I was there, though. That was a long time ago. Before I even had a kayak, but it's a place I definitely want to check out.

In his letter to the commissioners, Malibu 2 was correct in stating that the outcome was preordained.  The parties responsible were just buying consent with the public meetings.......making it look democratic.

In my humble opinion, I believe that Bluekayak is right:  The only way to change this is to hit CDFG where it really hurts....money.  Most of their revenue is based on fishing license sales - and they're hurting for money, bad.

If there were an organized state-wide effort of civil disobedience by anglers, where anglers not only boycotted license sales, but fished anyhow and got busted, the financial burden for the State would be just too great.

It's either that or start a State initiative to repeal the MLPA.  Either way, it means a big commitment for anglers.  The present setup is just a, well, setup.

I would have gone yesterday to see the circus but had to work, I spent 20 hrs or so the last time in San Rafeal and saw it was just a show, already decided, but they had to make it "look right", thanks to everyone that went, SBD, Ben from Coastside and of course a HUGE thanx to Malibu 2 for your undying perseverance, and all of NCKA for the MADNESS.
Had a great day at the Bean today, but I think I could go a year or 2 without getting a fishing license.
Time to oil up the guns and start hunting again.

Going back to what Bluekayak has been saying...

Is Coastside gearing up for a lawsuit being this process has so many holes in it,

OK - I don't vent very often but here goes. I am one who believes politicians roll with whatever group that gives them the almighty vote for office and/or reelected. This whole mlpa process is all political. Making areas of our ocean off limits to sport anglers is absolutely absurd.

IMO - With anti money and votes, the anti groups have the politician's in the palm of their hand . Anti groups are using the politicians to pursue there goal of  discouraging sportsman by making it extremely difficult or too expensive to pursue our ambitions. Antis had difficulties winning with previous bills on their own to ban hunting and fishing, so they are going at it from a different angle in corting the politicians. This new tactic has been successful in closing fishing areas and public lands that provide the opportunity for sportsman.

Dove hunting, bear hunting, trapping, hunting on federal and state land is all being attacked by antis. Do I need to mention the lead ban in central CA to protect the pet Condor!!!! The wild condor is extinct!! Those that have been raised in captivity and released into the wild should be in a zoo.

Have you priced ammunition without lead? Did you know current legislation wants to ban reloading. Did you know that our own DFG accepted funds from HSUS, the largest anti group in the US.

This state doesn't have the funds to support many of the decisions the politician's are making or the staff to enforce the new laws. But, the antis win once the areas are closed because you know the state won't have the money to provide the research needed to reopen the closed areas.

The CA sportsman is getting screwed by the politicians. This is how I feel. If you have read this to the end, thanks for letting me vent.

Ben

"this state is being run by the left now"?  Not sure how long some have been in California, it has always been a very liberal state.  Liberal politics are one thing, this is a group of peoples personal agenda being pushed on everybody else.  Our state is in the worse financial crisis of our lives and yet they have money and the will to take away peoples jobs and our chance for recreation.  Why not make some areas completely catch and release?  People would still fish that way and we they would have a great way to know about fish poplulations.  I know, it is way to easy, the politicos would never go with it!  As bas as I feel for us as fisherman, I feel horrible for our friends who run bait and tackle operations.

Thanks for that, Ben. Good insight. The non-lead ammo thing for condors is reeeediculous.

Nah, we're just all upset over this right now. Life will go on and there's still plenty of places to fish.

Honestly - If you scour the old fishing report archives you will find very few reports from areas that are going to be closed.

There's NOTHING like kayak fishing and the comraderie of the members of this board.

I had mixed feelings about the whole thing, I'm new to this club, and I pretty much stay away from politics because it is bad for my temper; I already felt like I needed a law degree to understand regs, looks like I now need to get GIS training to figure where I am not supposed to be.

Anyway, thanks for the response, didn't mean to derail the thread,  I am psyched as hell to start fishing with you guys.
