Just received my ticket in the mail for not attending my fishing pole A few months ago @ San Antonio Lake. The fee: $450.00  ouch!!! That hurts more than any venomouse rockfish I got poked with!! :smt010. Should I just pay or take it too court? My two sons were in the immediate area when I was not. My younger son asked if he could use the rod while I took A nap and I said yes. Of course he never picked it up..What do you think?

Fight the fine if you can,
But remember that if they saw you handling the rod last or if your son said it was your rod than you may not have a case.
Good luck,
Eric

450? Wow I would fight for it! Just tell them you went to the bathroom and you ask your son to watch it, you are gonna bring them in but the urgency is too sudden cant hold it...you may not win it but definitely can reduce it!

Heck, just show up to court and explain the situation to the judge. No need to lie; just tell him what happened: you went to take a nap and gave permission to your son to use the rod while you napped. So, it's still technically 'your bad' but any reasonable person would understand that you did not intentionally violate the law. And lots of the time, that's what it is all about....did you mean to break the law? I assume a fair judge would reduce the fine amount.

I'm with PK in this.

The bummer is that should you choose to go the court route, you'll have to take a day off and travel south, but for $450, I'd definitely do it.

Good luck Andy!

Definitely go to court and just tell the truth. If the judge doesn't dismiss it, he'll definitely reduce the fine.

Short drive for Andy---Monterey Co courthouse is in Salinas. So yes, definitely go to court for this.

Holy Crap that's steep, I thought my $216 fine for one fish over limit was high! Get battle ready and fight it, the state is in the budget crisis and are going to rob you. Unless he has video footage and witnesses, you can win or get it reduced at least

Cool.  Go, Andy, go!

Not knowing county lines, I though San Antonio might be in the next county.  I've only passed through maybe a half-dozen times with the wife back in college.

Give me liberty or give me death.  Well maybe not death, but a butt kickin at least.  I guess the part that pisses me off about San Antonio is you have total nutjobs disregarding every common sense use of power boats and they nail a napping fisherman.  :smt013

Now that's what I want to hear Andy :smt003 You have nothing to lose, and may even gain. My recommendation is the same as PK's. Be truthful and explain your case. The truth shall set you free :smt005. The last thing a judge wants to here is BS.

Good luck
Ben

Does the court define 'napping' as being in a 'passed out state in the back of one's man van'?  :smt044  Cause thats just about when I rolled up to the camp  :smt005

Andy, plead not guilty and we can all show up as a character references.  We can win the judge over I am sure with your fryer (exhibit A.)  NO way he can convict you after having some carnitas!!!  :smt044

Oh, btw, I got off on my ticket  :smt004
