I'm a newbie with a Hobie Revolution, shopping for a wetsuit to fish the salt.  I've browsed through the various wetsuit discussions here--very helpful.

Do any of you have some Hobie-specific wetsuit advice?  What works well for pedaling instead of paddling?  Thanks for your help.

There is no Hobie-specific wetsuit that I know of.  I'm wearing a cheap 3mm wetsuit when ocean fishing on my Hobie.

Thanks Sailfish.

What I'm wondering specifically is how much does a wetsuit slow down your pedaling, tire you out faster, that kind of thing.  Do you notice?  Everyone seems to agree that you want a sleeveless Farmer John for paddling.  I was thinking of spending a little more to get the Neosport XSpan Farmer John, since the neoprene is supposed to be really stretchy.  $115 at Campmor, not too bad.

Hi FE,

I wear a 3mm 1 piece wetsuit and don't feel any restriction/slow down while pedaling.  Unless the wetsuit is too tight then you might get tired/discomfort during long trip.  A super stretchy wet suit should be more comfortable than a "economical" one  :smt003

Hey Fish Elvis,

If you get a 3mm Farmer John wetsuit, that leaves your shoulders free, and won't feel any restriction at all.

You should try some of the new Kokata gear for kayak fishing. Warmer, drier, and much better range of motion.  I never wear neoprene anymore and I have lots of it.

Kokatat Tempest pants...about $150, and there is a matching jacket that seals with the pants.  They are awesome, less than a drysuit, more versatile...I love mine.

How is the Kokatat stuff in case of long immersion in the ocean?

We have covered this extensively, so I'm not going to go over it again.  Long and short of it, if you don't paddle alone, and know how to self rescue, thats something you shouldn't have to consider.  I have had my seals last for 20-30 minutes with very minor leaks.  I wiped out in the surf 3 or 4 times surfing on Sunday and I stayed totally dry.  Its a personal chice, but theres no looking back for me. If you want the best of both worlds man-up and get the dry suit.

What is the jacket I'm looking for .. ????

And .. where is a good source to get this stuff from ?

It sucks being a newbie .. so many questions .. and now I have to man-up again ..
57 freaken years old, wife ( I call her Dr. Phyllis ) has just gotten me in touch with
my ... oh you just don't want to know ..

Any way .. Kokatat .. and an Outback .. in my future .. very near future.
Though, a friend and I had a good time at Lake Hennessey with a few bass this
last week .. windy though.

Where to get Kokatat now ? And which jacket ?
