Brendan, I believe LM is very shelterd from a south swell, especially in the south crnr where we launch, as its in the "swell shadow" of Pnt Pedro..Im no local tho........

Nice catch, well done. those are a rare find in the Bay Area in recent years though they look to be coming back following the Squid and Sardines. Gives me hope I can finally get one on a fly rod after waiting ten years or more for it ;-)

Sharky's exactly right. LM goes off on a N swell, and is very kind on a South swell. It also get's mushy on a high tide, and there is not usually a steep beach break (although on the extreme N end it can get that way). Just be aware that on an extreme high tide, you'll be launching/landing over a boulder field.
Just a walleye fisherman from MN tryin' ta get salty!

Nice one.   :smt001

Your reports are building up.  Soon you'll be encouraged to show pics of more than just patio shots.   :smt002

If you're getting back into guiding and want to entice those who watch this board you're doing great.  If you have Bill's blessing and want to make it something clear and on the surface that would be even better.  My bluntness is due to the continuing "mysterious" nature of your posts.  One is not expected to divulge details, and the unspoken understanding is that one is not to tease repetitively.   :smt001

Brendan... Nice Fish.... I don' t want to know where the "spot" is... :smt001... what I would  like is to better my skill level and chances of catching one... Any helpful tips would be appreciated ...I know they like squid (perfer live... candy)... I  know they are light shy... mostly, but not always,  bitting early or late in the day (dark or near dark)... I know they hang in the kelp...I suspect I've hooked at  least one in my favorite kelp only to have him break off on #25 lbs test mono... A commercial fisherman told me that they would troll for threshers with "rope"( big spectra) and catch them... so perhaps not line shy.... I understand that like other fish when they are "on" it doesn't matter what you throw... and like all other fishing you just gotta be in the right place at the right time... Again congrats on the Ghost.

Gue

Heya Abiking-
I might start posting more pics, however, I don't bring my camera with me, or any electronics, FF, or GPS, as its just one more expensive item to mess up with saltwater and grit. I keep my kayakfishing approach as simple as possible, and do pretty well. I'll try and bring the camera down to the water when I go out again on Thursday to better document the days pirate adventures for everyone on the board. :smt001

I don't mean to tease anyone with my secret spot talk, but I've got some serious homegrown knowledge thats been passed down to me through the network here in town and I don't want spots getting blown up. I don't want to sound like an ass but I've posted about certain spots in the past and then seen masses of people descend on then. I've even gone out in the morning, and had certain reputed members of this board tell newbies to follow me for the day. So imagine getting up early to fish, hoping to have a tranquil solo fishing experience and instead ending up getting trailed for the entire day.   :smt013

As far as guiding goes, I've thought about doing it again, and I may do a few jobs this summer after I renew my guide license, but overall its a lot of liability. We'll see. I may open shop again next summer but I just got offered a union electricians apprenticeship so I'm gonna get busy soon enough :smt006
