Nothing much to report met with Peter (Obkook) and Marvin (Shicken) around 5:30 we are debating between Crissy Fields and LM theres tons of baitfish everywhere, first we tried LM Ariel's report are very enticing for us so we voted for LM, bad idea waves has no pattern choppy big breaks, yet we said its border line, First was Pater then I followed it was a wet one going out.. Marvin decided not to take chance, as soon a we headout OMG big waves/swell bout 6ft, I didn't took Dramamine so I felt squiky I told peter I am going in I am feeling sick, on the way I tried to time it, waited for the big break and rode it, unfortunately its too unpredictable, I noticed another big break behind me  :smt107 I couldnt avoid it and it swallows me and rolled me, got my first Garage Sale.. :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 Thanks to Marvin for helping me out dragging the yak on the shore and Peter for the shirt, I manage to salvage some of my floating tackle, we went to HMB after but wind and swell made me stay inside the harbor and caught hundreds of baitfish... I began to freakout at HMB when I saw the white caps at the mavericks...next borderline will be a big NO NO NO NO...

Sorry to hear about your "garage sale".  Hope you didn't loose "expensive" gears.  Glad you're OK though.  Thank you for the report.

I was hoping you guys had a fish catching day out there. Try next time fishing with your live bait for halibut IN the harbor. I'll be back over there again working on a friends boat; hoping to get out for albi's next week.

Whooaa, to early for a garage sale.  Don't take the chance next time, especially in the blue.  glad loss was minimal.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Glad you made it in safely.
Was it smelt or anchovies that you were catching in the harbor?

Macs and dines at LM. All over the place. couldn't drop the sabiki without getting multiples.

In HMB harbor it was smelt mainly. Shicken and I went outside the harbor and to the right, but with the tide down and the swell up, waves were breaking on the reef, and we couldn't find anyplace fishy. Drifted the mouth of the harbor for butts on the way in, but really didn't put in the hours.

My lesson for the trip was that surf eyes and yak eyes are very different. I felt fine going out at LM, punched through a couple of waves, but never got uncomfortable - it was pretty small by surfing standards. Coming in was a little different, and the sick feeling of sliding to the bottom of the wave and starting to go sideways...I managed not to roll but it was close. And I didn't have a set wave to contend with like Darius!  :smt009

A good experience and always a fun day on the water though.

glad all are ok, nothing wrong just sitting on the beach admiring the water and calling it a day, but way to rally and try a different spot afterwards, cameron

thanks for the report, the noaa predicted wind, but the east bay weather was awesome today, no wind, warm humid, a few rain sprinkles now.  i was kicking myself for not being at lm today.

There was almost no wind when we launched. It picked up a little, but was not nearly as bad as predicted.

Thanks everyone for the concern and true theres always a lesson learned every trip, I lost all my tackle box that has jig heads and shrimp flies and swimbaits etc. Shicken was cracking up on the shore :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 and then as soon as he pulled his self together he help me out drag the yak and i started picking up floaters all in all it was a good trip with the 415's I literally caught 100's of bait, I had several all hooks in the sabiki it was fun :smt003

Glad to hear that you guys tried to fish. Next time you guys decided to go out go around the point and fish the Pedro area. It's very protected from the wind. The swells were big the day Relentless and I were fishing also.

Always stow away your gear going out and especially coming in. Even though I have over 100's of surf launchings, landings, & only 4 wipeouts under my belt I still stow my gear everytime. I'm very minimal with the gear I bring out in the ocean so stowing away gear is fast & easy.

Man, you launch and learn! I'm glad to hear no one got hurt.
I've had my scarey moments, mostly in ultra-calm conditions, cuz that's the only time I'll go! I am one to not chance it at all. I also agree with Ariel, I see guys loaded to the gills with gear, looking like battleships, just asking to lose gear. Last time out on the big blue I didn't lose a single rig and used the same setups the whole day. I didn't need to take pounds of tackle, just a small bag. I'll admit it, I'm a big chicken, but I don't have garage sales. If anything, I'll wait for you at the parking lot with the gear you need to replace, for sale. :smt003
Fishing from a yak is funner than hell. Dumping is not fun, but it's a great way to learn.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Prior to launch I advised darius to stow his rods inside.  He was about to launch w/ his rods in the holders.  We then noticed it wasn't possible to stow his rods in the hull by inserting through the front hatch.  The middle of the yak is very shallow due to the pontoon hull design, and the front hatch opening is small.  (ride 135)

I noticed he had bungee paddle keepers on the side, so we strapped them to the side and it was all good.

For the ride 135 owners, any tips on stowing rods for surf launch / landings?
