I caught a few small brown RF then what I thought had to be a decent halibut turned out to be something I have never seen around here before. It took a couple of runs for the bottom and gave me a heck of a fight. I took a pic of it and released it. I came home and googled trigger fish because it reminded me of ones you would see diving in Hawaii. A pic of a kid in the UK came up holding exact type of fish. He hit a 4" scampi tiped with squid. It was about 16" long and at least 5-7lbs

Wow, that's a rare catch around here!  Maybe we can catch the Humboldt squids too  :smt007  Thanks for the report and picture.

Awesome catch and some of the best ceviche around! Their skin is super tough to cut and very hard on your fillet knife.

I hope we get some Bonito and Baracuda next :smt045

Triggerfish! My brother speared one up here a few years ago. Great eating, but way out of its neighborhood.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Wow,
 Thats a Mexican finescale triggerfish...
El Nino brings em up to San Diego but Capitola?
This portends of more oddballs to come as El Nino heats up.
