Thick fog descended as Aaron, Bigwavedave, & I roll into the parking lot. We reach the beach to find melted haystacks of rotting kelp to "give character" to the launch. Maximum wave height was forecast at 8 feet. I think that was pretty right on.
50 feet out from the launch a big Bottlenose spouts and flexes his back at us as he passes. Auspicious....
Anyway, I fished scampis in the usual colors and ran a teaser hoochie later in the morning, in 30-60 fow.
The company today was excellent. Wind wasn't too bad until after noon. Not a bad day at all.

I tried a little fresh mojo on the kayak today & it worked.
Ran into these two fellows below hanging in close to the kelp forest.

WTG on the matched set! I just got back from the beach up here/sonoma coast. A little WAF time but I did get to surf. The wind was down low up here too. Forecast was for 15-25kts. Wished I could've hit it. Thanks for the report. jim

Nice. Did you carve the totem? The fish are cool. The totem is off the hook. My dream is to carve a totem with all ravens. Congrats on getting out. Did you just have to wait between sets? Or bust thru on the way out?

Great pics Aaron! I had a really great day fishing with you & Dave.

I honored yesterday's fish by cooking up half of one lingcod "cal-asian rockfish" style that afternoon (recipe on here courtesy of SBD) with fresh grown green onions. The dish is an indicator of summer's arrival at my house.

Yep, I carved the totem/tiki last winter to watch over our front door. It took a couple weeks of spare time. I used an 8' piece of madrone log, an electric chainsaw, mallet& chisels. I did the tattoo work with a woodburning tool. He's got a handline with a feathered lure held in front of him :smt003

The waves get concentrated at the point, so the launch wasn't too bad. When we landed the kelp obstruction and oddball rock shelves made it a little technical, even though the waves faces on that part of the beach were only a couple feet. FUN!

Check out the tribal paddle.

Yeah I try to get my artwork in places where I see it all the time; kitchen spoons, knife handles, tabletops,...kayak paddles. It infiltrates everything Our house is constantly getting new decorations. I'm fortunate that my wife encourages it to no end.

My new mojo is a carved wooden fishook with an ab shell barb that I hung off the bow of the kayak. Never underestimate the power of mojo....there's a reason those guys on the NOrthwestern bite the head off a herring before each season :smt044
