I was thinking of checking out the Bridgeport/Eastern Sierras area for some kayaking/hiking etc. I haven't been there in so long, and never went there with kayaking in mind. Now that that's what I'm into, I'm looking at it from a new angle... Anyone got some suggestions for good camping areas and kayaking/fishing oportunities?
Thankx, Jonesz

Twin Lakes is 8 miles out of Bridgeport. Lower Twin Lakes has restrictions on Boating I believe. Camp on stream, nice spots lots of shade. Nice stream fishing. At the end of the campgrounds parking lot to launch kayaks , short walk to lake. Very nice lake for kayak fishing. Not far away is Bodie. June lake loop is about 30 minutes north. Saddle Bag lake is about 45 minutes away at 10028 feet lots of tout by dam fun to catch with a worm or eggs. I really enjoy eastern sierras !!!

This is my favorite area to visit and fish! Any of those june lake loop lakes are great. Twin, lower twin has no ski boats!!!!!! It a true fishing lake. As mentioned, sadlle bag is great. Amazing spectacular little lake. Topaz is fun to fish and bridgeport too. Check out kens sporting goods web site its in bridgeport. Id stop and fish the west and little walker rivers by foot too. Fun. Virgina lakes is great too, its endless.

I always camp in USFS campgrounds below Twin Lakes, along Robinson Creek.  The creek is good planter fishing, upper and lower twin are a lot of fun, even from the bank, in a kayak should be great.  Check Recreation. gov for campground availability, I'm sure reservations are required right now.

not much that I can add to the great advice already given here, except a photo tribute and restating the importance of stopping by Kens to get outfitted/educated, catching breakfast at the Hays street cafe, and recovering at the bar at Rhino's b&g
I know some of these pictures are recycled here but the place is so fantastic! I never get tired of checking them out for some inspiration.
the more recent green creek kayak shots were never posted.

even though I have paddled and fished this area alone, in the arrogance/ignorance of youth, I have now grown the wiser.
fishing b-port ,full contact style, is absolutely a team event. this place offers a bounty of opportunities for knee and ankle injuries. wet shoes on slick rocks and logs are always a hoot.
text book strainers everywhere. thunderstorms that shake you to the bone. vampiric mosquitoes
that sing with glee when anglers arrive on green creek. Im not kidding about the skeeters
and I cant wait to go back. :spiderman:

Nice pics Hydrospider. I love that area--been spending a lot of time there the last year or so to the neglect of the Bay Area.  Twin Lakes, Bridgeport reservoir are good,. Moving the lakes and stream at Tioga Pass are excellent as well (Saddle Bag, Tioga, Ellery, and more). Junes lakes Loop SOuth of Tioga Pass and Lee Vining is great--lot;s of hike in lakes as well for Goldens. Then there is Mammoth Lakes with lots of lakes. Beyond that is Lake Crowley (famous and for no small reason) I kayak fished it last 4 or 5 years ago with a group from own South (Dennis Spike organized)--I had a 12 fish day by 1300 hours. Thne there is Crowley Lake--big and smart Trout there--and it is beautiful scenery as well. There is much, much more. a very rich area. the Eastern Sierra are a treasure unlike any other on yjr planet--and its in our backyard. How lucky are we?

Look into renting a cabin on Lower twin. Or stay at Doc N Al's Resort on Robinson Ck, below Twin Lakes. Or get a cabin at Virginia Lakes.
Don't forget to drag big Rap's across Rainbow Pt in Bridgeport Res! And you should try the E Walker below the Res if you have time....lots of trophies in there.
Sooo many fun places to fish in that area. I love it!
(and don't forget to try the "tubes" that run under the roads!)
