Just wanted to make a post about a fun day today at Stillwater. It was fun to paddle out and enjoy the beuitful scenery. The winds threatened to push us of the water early but fortunately backed down and made the day very comfortable. The rock cod hits and catches were steady throughout the morning. I did manage a fat vermillion . I would really like to catch a ling cod but remai n lingless todate. I did manage a underling today so I guess Im getting close. It was nice to meet up with Jayd and Soulfish1 who had been on the water early but to the South. It is always nice to meet up with other NCKA members on the water.

WTG on the fat vermilion hoppy. Don't worry about the lingcod, it will come
soon. I caught my very first lingcod this year at Shelter Cove. That was special.

Hey there Hoppy! How ya been? (ps--don't tell anyone but I'd rather eat a verm than a ling)
Thanks for the report,

I was out there today as well. Got a late launch at 0900, fearing we'd be blown off the water by 11 or so, but the conditions just got nicer. The bite for the usual suspects over the reefs really slowed down after 11:00, and so we ran in to the Kelp to do some potholing. Found two Lings, about 26 and 28 inches, and a Cabezon there as well.

The trick for us today was iron tipped with squid, right in among the kelp, and a lot of patience. It paid off, and I was stoked to bring a friend out for his first kayak fishing session, and to put him on some fish!

Sorry no pics...gotta get on that some day

Best,

TallPaul

Hi Hoppy,

This day couldn't be better day to spend it out on the water. Even though we never seen each other on the water it was nice to hear your action over the VHF. Congratulation on the Vermilion and the underling.
My party, Marmit and new be, Bear was south of you, launching out of Monastery Beach at 6am. The action there was also steady.

We started out working the kelp beds to only hook up on some little gofers. Then we worked are way into deeper water (90-130ft)and found some blues, olives, vermilion's, canneries that we successfully released...no floaters today,
and some keeper sanddabs. We used swimbaits and squid, squid being the bate of the day,at least for us! Mother Nature finally turned on the fan on low and pushed us off the water by 13:30.

some pics from my broken Kodak!

It was a very nice day on the water.  Calm at the outset and got even calmer as the morning progressed until the wind started to pick up around noon.  Alex was taking dabs from a nice little hole while was roaming around seeing if I could mark some fish in deeper water.  But I didn't so I returned and dropped in his hole to steal his sole from him  :smt001
