Launched around 1:30 or 2 o'clock this afternoon next to the Capitola Pier and paddled the outside edges of the kelp. There was barely a breeze and the swell was maybe 2-3 feet, very nice in comparison to what I heard it was like in Monterey. Hooked into two bait fish and pinned one on the hook and let it drift. About forty-five minutes later I hook into the first one, Fish On! Reel it in and net it just in case it was under size, oh yeah, it's a keeper. Pin on the other bait fish about thirty minutes later I watch my rod bend, Fish On! Drifted/paddled in and just in time because the wind started blowing nicely. First halibut of the year

Nice....Yep I bagged mine last weekend right out from the end of the pier about 200 yards past the mooring bouy. There was a blue and white sailbout on the bouy on a skirted popsicle chovie

Man, now I'm super bummed because I'd hoped to hit the SC/Capitola area this weekend.  Glad you got out before the weather started reeking havoc.  Job well done!

nice work, you have some serious fishing mojo going lately!

I'm still holding out hope for Sunday. The forecast has improved since yesterday.

 SUN
NW WINDS 10 TO 20 KT. WIND WAVES 2 TO 4 FT. NW SWELL 4 TO
 7 FT. PATCHY FOG.

drove by New Brighton around 7 pm, and the water looked doable, so dont let the WX freak you out too much.  Worst case scenario is you are trapped at the beach with bikinis running around. :smt007

CalBear, if that picture is of you in this post, you certainly don't look 86 years old as your description says you are.
