After coercing my cat off the car so I can load up the kayak, I went down to Big Sur this last weekend and met up with RHYAK and some of his SoCal friends for a bit of camping and fishing on the Ol' Sur Coast.  It was an *awesome* trip for my first time ever kayaking south of Carmel!  We went out of Willow which was so beautiful, I could have been happy just sitting on the beach all day relaxing  :smt007  But we went fishing anyways :smt003

Got out through the surf OK and headed out in search of structure looking for lings and cabbies.  Routed around in the kelp a bit, then joined the rest of the group out in deeper water.  Fishing was fairly decent right off the bat with a lot of olives, blacks, and Pat's favorite, GOPHERS!  :smt044 Some decent sized verms started being pulled up so we started fishing the bottom, trying to get past the smaller pesky fish and ended up with a few really nice verms, coppers, etc.  Bob got the only ling, I managed a nice cabbie for myself though.  We all went home with some really nice fish!  Well, those that were left after our fish taco feasts  :smt003

Ryan, you rock!  And thanks for inviting me on such a fun weekend adventure.  I hope to get down and try fishing SoCal this year with you and your gang!  Or if your up for a trip up here, your welcome at my place anytime. :smt006 (Bob, if you end up reading this, same goes to you man!)

Al that is a great report. The water is just so flat and windless its amazing. I'm glad you had a good trip. If the conditions are like that its definetly worth the drive.

That first pic of Willow shows some decent waves peeling off. But the other side of the beach looks like ankle-slappers....good juxtaposition (big word of the day!).
