After peddling my Hobie for a couple of years now, I have decided there must be a way to increase the comfort in the seat.  The combination of the sitting position and having your legs in a raised position to peddle creates a lot of pressure around the tail bone.  Maybe it's just me, but has anyone found a good solution to increase the comfort while peddling?  Do any of the seat pads help?  if so, what's the best?

Which model of the Hobie are you peddling?  I have no problem with the original seat came with my Hobie Sport.  You might want to re-adjust the mirage drive to fit your legs better.  I can sit on mine Hobie for 12+ hours with little discomfort of course you need to shift around from time to time  :smt003

Just saw this post about a home made kayak seat pad.  You might want to give it a try:

Sonny,
I'm the one with the yellow Revo that had the bait well with the shiners at Paradise.  I'll try adjusting the peddles next time out.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Marine west in Alameda, has a sale section in the isle where their life vests are located. On sale for only $6.00 are yellow dog life vests. The funny thing is that the vests are the shape of the bottom section of the seats we sit on, plus a few straps. The pads are about inch and a half thick, float, and with the straps, can easily be placed under your current seat, and secured. They have about a dozen left, available in different sizes M,L,XL. My wife and I use them and their terrific, very comfy, plus they actually look like theyre supposed to be used as seat pads.

cheers,

Geoff

What brand are they I need one for my dog, if I ever make it to Alameda used to live there. Where is the store I used to go to the West Marine in Oak Town. Maybe I can find one online
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

I think I remember Sean telling me that at a certain point you make yourself unstable if you sit too high in the kayak.  There is a trade-off here with these thick padded seats.  I got a replacement seat from Surf to Summit that works pretty good.

Mickfish,

The one you posted above is much better looking than the one I am talking about. The one that is for sale at the store is a lot simpler, and essentially just a yellow colored pad, cut in the shape of the bottom portion of our seat. As for elevation, the pad really doesnt seem to affect ones seated position, as it conforms more or less to the shape of your bum, and actually is really very comfy, without throwing off your balance in the yak. The Marine west in Alameda is off of costitution way, and can be reached from the Webster tube, make a left on Pacific Ave, and one block down, on the left side, voila, you cant miss it.
