What size gaff does everyone use, I wanted to get a Kunz but they are not making them for a while so I was thinking of a Xtools gaff, but would like to input on what size everyone is using.

dude, wait for the Kunz, mine took a while to get but dang, it was so much more well worth the wait and the money spent.   you can get a factory gaff from anyone fast, but Kunz gaffs just plain rock on every level!

Yea, that what I heard but rock season opens in a few weeks and they are not going to start making them until July according to there website, I guess I can get a cheap one for a spare in the mean time. What size are you using 12" 18"?

The Kunz ones are sweet. I have been playing around in the garage and here is what I came up with. The handle length is just over 15". The over all length with the hook is about 21-22". I also added some weight to the handle end so you could flip it over and use it as a whacker once the fish in on your game clip/stringer. I think real long ones are just to long to be useful in a 'yak.

Those look sweet, you must be a fan of Scareface. LOL

So is rattan just bambo? That would work and it would be nice to have a back up gaff.

You are good with wood works.  Love your multi-purpose "gaff-N-whack" tool  :smt003

Sorry I can't help you out at the moment.  We're moving to a new house this weekend (still in Santa Rosa) and I don't anticipate being settled enough to make gaffs and do any rod work again until late June / early July or so.

For what it's worth, for around here, a gaff between 2 and 3 feet in length works fine.

Nothing to be sorry for, I'll make a cheap one or buy a cheap one until you are ready to sell again. Anyone with this type of fan support I'm sure is worth waiting for. If you have a waiting list put me down for one.

Hey Markbc, definitely put some money aside for a Kunz gaff. I guess I just got my order in time as I received my new personally engraved Kunz gaff about a week ago. I am impressed with the workmanship and can't wait to put it to good use.

Thanks again Erik for the gaff

I guess it's not really a matter of "putting aside money" for the custom EK gaff....because they cost the same as a name brand factory-made gaff anyways (like 40 bucks right?).
That’s 1 of my favorite parts about the EK gaffs.
When people ask “Wow how much did that piece of art cost?”
And I respond “The same price as your 1980s-neon-green POS x-tools gaff, that will stop floating after 6 months of use.”

Nice one Sonny!  That bad boy is in about 80 FOW in Shelter Cove if anyone wants to go for it!  :smt005 Funny too, cause I was talking about how I WANTED to loose that puppy so I could get a Kunz!

But I got a free upgrade! To a REALLY SWEET gaff and knocker by EWB!  The knocker got its first blood last Friday, and it felt GREAT  :smt007  Eric, you da man!
