MBK Monterey Bay Kayaks 3rd Annual Fishing Derby 8/15 UPDATED!!!!

Just got us registered for the MBK event!  It will be super romantic anniversary, 2 fishing tournaments!  The best part will be when I win the new yak   See you all there!

Tigerfish, absolutely.  I plan on hitting both, so you can ride with me, just park at my place and carpool.  I need to win that $$ back this time!

Can anyone recommend a decent hotel close to the launch?

Hey Dustin, MBK parking lot!    I heard they let you stay overnight there...probably that's where I am gonna end up staying and sleep in my car of course.

Woah there!  I said the let us stay last year, not sure if they are cool with it this year!  Aaron??

Is this the same day as the car show that was happening last year?  Those guys were parked all over the place, including MBK's parking lot, and no one hassled them at all...

Dave, I take that back, I am hitting this one only.  Sunday is my birthday and the kids want to go out on a charter with me, but are welcome to hit it with me on Sat!

So, PK brtinghs up the perrenial leopard question.

I say thresheres are OK, because we eat them with gusto.  If the group conscience is no leopards, then I agree with that....I am very fine with that in fact.

Sahll we say threshers only (though it's unlikely?)

Also I will post a map and fishing suggestions in a separate thread when we get closer to the date.  You could probably look up the one I posted last year and the year before that for the info, but glad to make it easier for the newer members.

What about blue sharks? is that an option, and are they within reach of our launch and time frame?  I bow fished for them about ten years ago, and getting one on the rod in a yak would be somethin.

Can we get a final decision on leopards? That was gonna be my target fish, so I'm all in favor of including them!

Why are so many opposed to including them? Just a question....I'm attending either way.

I am in favor of targeting them too, they seem to be the only thing I can catch!

Well, it's a fishing tournament and we're targeting "gamefish."
Is a leopard shark really a gamefish?
A gamefish is technically a fish that is prized for it's fighting ability or difficulty to catch.
In other words, can you effectively target leopard sharks w/a lure?

I would like to know about this one also, I had a game plan, but if leopards are included I might change my stratagy.

They are listed in DFG as a game fish, so I don't think we should pick fly shit out of pepper, it will still be a level playing field.

Ive yet to see A leopard pulled out of that area, so I say all you guys target them well I go after what I know is there!!! 

while i agree with no leppies, i also have never heard of a leppie caught in the mbk area.  i would think they would be more up towards moss and elkhorn slough.

i think the winner will be catching a very large wsb!

Leopard was part of legal catches for the last 2 MBK's derbies and yet nobody caught it to win the derby!
