After I posted a question last week, I received tons of info, I got really pumped up big time!! But heres the 411 of my recent kayak hunting, I went this weekend to check up 3 kayaks I was on the road for 3.5 HRs, well, unfortunately I was dissapointed, All the prospected yaks have some so called "minor issues", yeah right  :smt013 cracks :smt011 are not minor issues, to make the long story short, I didn't get one, I am back this time on the classified (previous post on general info), I was wondering of anyone might want to unload some old yaks, hey if its just collecting dust why not pass along to this newbie, I am not asking for free lets clear that, I am will to pay for how much its worth, I thank you in advance sorry no over $500 please, thank you!!! Prefer Tarpon T130 T140 Ocean Kayak cobra

Hi D:

I feel your a little too late for killer Deals on used Yaks. RF season is open and ARW is producing. I posted a Scupper Pro from Craiglist around
you price range. It's a Seasonal thing with Xmas being the best time to deal.
I would spend a little extra and pick up a new Scupper Pro or a P13. I don't belive someone is going to part with a beloved tricked out Yak
a bargin basment price! :smt009
Mooch has a good deal on a "Ride" for $500. which is a great stable Yak
and even has a  Rudder! :smt001
                                                    Good Luck
                                                    Just my Spin! :smt002

Hi D:

Thanks Ernie, I've seen the one mooch has, and yes its quite a deal! I'm not sure if he still have it, and I prefer Tarpon, Trident or Cobra Marauder I did some homework on the 3 of them, I am trying to save more moolah as much as I could to get brand new ones, the best case I have is the fishermans warehouse on their no sales tax event, if I can't find one till weekend My desperate date is on Friday Camping on Saturday, I am still hoping that someone out there are willing divorce their old baby  :smt003

Again Thank you!!

$500 is gonna be tough. But you may get lucky. I'm not sure how willing you are to drive for a deal but Cobra's seen to be popular on So Cal.

I am most certain that $500 is a little tough, but, I called fishermans warehouse they have brand new 699-799 depends on which one I have until Friday, I am willing to drive up to 150 miles radius from San Francisco, depends on the savings. Thanks Much

Let me know about that Tarpon, because I was eyeing that until I found my deal.  I called and they said it was in really good condition.....curious to see if that's true! Goodluck! :)

As mentioned you're just going to have to be patient.

But if I may offer a word or three:  When I was in your shoes I was hung up on price, too...  scouring the net for the BEST deal...  To make a long story short I ended up paying a little more than I wanted to at the time, by buying NEW from California Canoe and Kayak, (Manta Ray 14).  It wasn't the cheapest price around, and they wouldn't even throw in a paddle, (I was a little miffed by that)...

But:

A) I was able to paddle all their kayaks side-by-side, which was invaluable, I actually changed my mind about which kayak to buy because of this.
and

B) about a year down the road when the kayak developed some cracks I took it back to CC&K they took it back and got me a replacement without a sideways look, or even a single question, WITHOUT a receipt or warrantee card.

Best coupla hundred bucks I ever spent... buying local from a solid dealer.

I am a fan of the T140. Bought mine used for 400. In fact, I've owned like 7 good kayaks in the past five years and never paid more than 450. Not bragging...just telling you it IS possible to find one in your price range. Keep looking.

Dont be to eager.  Sit tight, you'll find something for 5 or less like you want, wait till the end of the month when someone needs rent money.... :smt003

Buy a used tarpon 140, your gonna beat your first kayak up something fierce.  You should have seen my first kayak and now how beat up my tarpon 160 is.
