Met up with Bennett and his Dad in Monterey at around 6Am to find the beach absolutely beautiful and flat calm...Lake Pacific! Saltlicker arrived earlier and was already on the water soaking a sardine for hali bites.I get him on 69 and he has already had one good take down.Everything looks great and I'm excited to get out on the water. Then I realize I left the sonar screen at home in the garage :smt013 Even had a fully charged battery.Oh well won't be the first time I've fished blind. We drifted the inshore sandy reef rock piles and the edges of kelp for some small copper, roseys and plenty of gophers (CPR) on squid and sardines. My keeper 26.5" ling and two brown rf were caught on blueish swimbaits.

Beautiful launch

My toothy critter

One of two chunky browns

Feisty and colorful little copper CPR

Octopus pumped up after jetting water and ink

Saltlicker...The new T-13 looks sick...I'm very pleased with mine so far.

Now it's time to build the ultimate fish taco. :beer2

Thanks for the Report Aaron and nice fish you got there, I love lake fishing on the ocean, wish I did't have to work today would've loved to be out on the water. I was out friday and I caught probably a dozen of those little Octopus, unless it was the same one and I just kept on catchin him. Are the octopus edible?

Nice ling and I like the first pic of the sunrise. I was out there the day before yesterday and caught a few rockies. A friend of mine had been calling me all day trying to get me out there talking about the hot striper bite in front of MBK. I tried trolling for some but had no luck but I saw two guys surf fishing with 5-8 lbers (one being my buddy).I heard of many more catches though. Will probably try again tomorrow. Of course octopus are edible... and tasty

Great pics, especially the launch one. Conditions looked very nice.

Wow what a great day you all had, I've never seen anone catch an octopus like that, but i do know that there isn't any better ling bait than a small octopus, had one coughed up into my lap by a keeper ling once, he went on the stringer and the octopus took up position on my hook, 2 drops, 2 more lings, the last one took the octopus, gave me a little splash and laughed all the way back down.

Congrats on hitting such a beautiful day

Nah, I released this one after playing with him...He was a master of self-defense and deserved to live.In the past I have eaten octos and tho a bit of work to prepare, they can be tasty. They also make great ling bait...just gotta konk them so they don't stick to the bottom or crawl back into a hole.

This spot is usually a pretty easy launch, but I've never seen it this calm wind and swell wise this early in the season. The drift was so slow we had to make short moves and troll just to cover ground.Late morning was HOT...by 12:00 I was cooking in my 3mm wetsuit and dry top.A light breeze picked up out the NW around 12:30, but by that time the fish were on ice and I was enjoying a sandwich from Casa Bodega and watching jiggly twins on the beach. :smt003
