Is this for experienced guys only? Also I am from Santa Cruz, but never fished this area, so Im a bit clueless on where to go??

I believe this derby is for all levels of experience, but you should be familiar with basic safety and self rescue.  They stated: "For our safety, HMB Kayak Co. will have a support boat and the Harbormaster will provide jetski patrols.  All participants will be required to have a VHF radio tuned to Ch. 69."

Sounds like fun. I've never fished this area but there's a first time for everything.

Porky,

I'm in SC also. Lets get a couple trips in before this derby.

Im interested in this, but I am a total rookie....

Bye then I'll have a few trips down, but still a rookie.

In 2007, it was only the second time I had been on the Big Blue, at this event.  Try and get up there before hand to do some pre-fishing to learn the area.  I still have no clue myself, but its good advice!  :smt003

I am in. Is anyone camping down there?

You can:

-camp at the Princeton Harbor Parking lot BUT NO TENTS ALLOWED - meaning you can park and sleep on / inside your vehicle. (I'll find out what cost is for per night)

or - reserve a camp site at the Half Moon Bay State Beach on Kelly Ave. (less than a 5 mile drive South of Princeton Harbor. (reserve soon or better yet, get some of the NCKA gang together and reserve the group campsite. The group campsite rarely gets used and you'll have a better chance getting the group site over an individual site.

I'll camp on the Princeton Parking lot but I'd rather go with the group campsite at HMB State Beach!

Fee for the parking lot camping is $30.00 per night. The permits can be obtained at the self-pay station located at the launch ramp or at the Harbor Masters office located at the foot of Johnson Pier.

I'm putting it on my calendar - got a yak, but still need to get it a bit more rigged, and need a VHF radio.

I just looked at Reserve America for Half Moon Bay state beach and for the night before, it is completely booked - the group campsite as well... :smt044

If anyone already has a reservation please PM me if you are willing to share a space for my tent (I don't snore).  :smt003
