Capitola 5/12 - first blood on new yak

Launched at about 9 AM from the right side of the Cap wharf. Flat calm conditions, very minimal swell and no wind. Paddled out to 38th ave and drifted dead squid and swimbaits in 30-40' depths.

Lots of action - caught several rockfish, two barely undersized halibut and two lings (one undersize, one keeper). Lots of action, but only one real keeper for the day, a 26" ling.

Second time out in my new Tarpon 140, but first actual fish onboard. Most of the fish, including both of the butts and the keeper ling, came on swimbaits. Only a few rockfish and a undersized ling on the squid.

Holy Hell...This is more fish in SC in a week then ALL of last year! Solid work.

Nice ride! i have an old wst140, and now i have center hatch envy (mine has a tiny 4 in hatch). Sounds like SC is shaping up for a great season. Thanx for the report......

I have fished for halibut in Capitola about 14 zillion times.  You are ahead of me already!
