Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

Anyone know where's the best place to fish for small mouths???

Also, are there any campsites open? If not, where's a good alternative? (to camp)

Mooch,  I've had my best luck for smallies in the Putah Creek area of the lake and above. Don't know about the camping.

Spanish Flat and Putah Creek Park Resorts are definitely closed, and I think Rancho Monticello is closed too.

Just about everything is closed on the Putah side.

Below are some pictures of the launch at the far end past the Putah arm.

There is a locked post to prevent trucks from going down. I haven't been there for a month so I don't know how the levels are. It's a clean easy path once you are past the post.

It's an absolute TRAGEDY what the BLM has done to this amazing lake!!! Every time I think about it...I get pissed off. My family had a place @ Spanish Flat since it opened in the 50s...we survived fires, floods, droughts, jetskiers...damn that sh!t makes me angry to think about! Sorry Jimbo, didn't mean to threadjack. I know you can still launch from Cappell Cove or Markley Cove. Not sure about the others.

I hear your pain on this but do feel that in the long run it will make it better for all those who didn't have a run down trailer on the front on such an amazing lake. The trailers need to go and now with all the less traffic the fishing should be a whole lot better. I just hope they get their ass in gear and finish the cleanup and campgrounds that were promised.

Jim, I launch over by the big island in one of the day use areas, and just cart my yak tot he lake. There are a few spots to park around Zodiac island area. Have not been there this year, but have never had an issue before going about it like that.

Hey oh folks!  Reviving a seemingly dead thread here and risking public ridicule!!  First time poster long time reader - be gentle! :)

That being said, I just got my OK T-13 and will be taking her out for her 2nd paddle.  I'm hoping to make it up to Putah Creek but have been wondering about launch sites up that way.  From this thread and what I know from friends in the area, there's not much going on but a few developments starting to pick up.

Wondering if any of you awesomely edificated folks could share any info you have on the current state of Berryessa up around Putah Creek area.  I used to fish that arm of the lake YEARS ago with my dad, but I imagine it's changed quite a bit.  It was always quite awesome for the smallies way up there...

Thanks folks!

The campground and boat ramp at Putah are open. It costs $3.15 for day use fee to park & launch. The one at Spanish Flat, now called Foothill Pines, is closed probably until Memorial Day. Capell & Oak Shores are open & both are free but the gate at Oak doesn't open until 7-7:30am and closes at 5pm. There is also a launch up at the North end called Eticurea but I haven't been up there in a year.
