Well I spent the day turning out a few more knockers and gaffs for GMS III.  i got some more rope and added turks heads to all the knockers I have made previously.  They are still drying but I took a couple pictures:

The gaffs are roped around the hook, and a turks head placed down the shaft.  It should give another goos handhold on the shaft.  They turned out so well, I may have to keep one  :smt001

I was going to make more, but ran out of time.  I also ended up filling the knockers tips with lead.  Only about 2 oz, but it sure made a diffrence!  The rope should clear up some as the sparvarnish dries.  It looks a little yellow where the fresh varnish is on the rope.

Matt,

Bring some rope so you can show me how to tie the turks head. I have 5 knockers and 3 gaffs (once I go get the hooks). Not sure I'll be able to whip up more but ya never know.

Thanks all.

You got it ewb.  It really isn't that hard, just takes a little time.  I tied up 3 knockers and 2 gaffs in about 2 hours.  I then seal the rope with sparvarnish to lock it in place.  I also put a little superglue on the knot ends to hold them tight.  I just use 1/8" nylon rope from Walley World.  It is amazing how much the knots dress up a simple piece of wood.

The lead filled ends on the knockers really made a diffrence.  I hope to notice a nice loud crack across the water, when put to use  :smt001

I doubt I will be able to make any more.  I go back to work tomorrow, and have a lot of packing to do.  Still need to get to the grocery store for beer and whiskey....oh yeah maybe some food too.

Thanks Abking.  I look forward to seeing what you bonk!

Nice tools, but I have to admit I was a bit dissapointed with this post.  I expected something different to liven up my morning based on the title of the post.......

Well, as long as my browser is open......

What did you make the hooks out of stainless stock ? Or were you able to just buy them to build.
I was going to use an old wooden bat to accomplish both.
Thanks Brian
