Easy limits of big abs a mile or so up the coast, in 10 fow, we PIGGED out on 6 abs Sat night, big steaks, yummm.
Saw Earnest out there, his first time, the swell got to him and he came in after getting his ab, I gave him one of mine and we ate the rest. * I saw an alligator lizard by the bathrms at least a foot long*
Sunday we hit the same spot and took a bit more time checking out the sizes and got some fatties to bring home. Brought the speargun but didnt see anything big, just a bunch of greenling.
One major bummer tho...that nifty little camera on the headstrap?
Good idea to tie that stuff on next time and paint it yellow and put an orange float or something on it cause its gone. :smt013

It was nice seeing you there in Van Damme. Thanks for the ab. They're slow cooking in the crock pot. The water was great. I was told the water was considered very calm. Too bad my stomach doesn't like the ocean much. I guess I'd take some dramamine next time. The visibility was great, must have been at least 15'. I saw one blue rock fish in the kelp. Sorry to hear about your new camera. I meant to ask you how's the quality of underwater video, but  :smt009. It might make you feel better if I tell you that my submersible Uniden Voyager was submerged for 5 seconds and stopped working. I learned a few things during this first ab dive. Next time I'd be more prepared.

btw, did you end up getting that 10 incher you saw?

Guitarzan, nice job on the abs, we passed you going on the opposite direction on Friday.  We were headed back to the bayarea while you're heading up to mendocino.  Glad you guys had a great time.

Soory about your new cam. That is just the shits. I am also glad to see that you got out there and snagged some nice abalone. Van Damme is a great campground. Especially those warm showers after being in the ocean on a cold day. Congrats see ya' soon I hope. Craig

The 10 inchers are there, just hiding in the cracks and behind the 9 inchers, each extra inch can be an extra pound of meat.
I saw the lizard during a Boche(?) Ball Game, saw him shooting off into the brush, I came back with a snare 1/2 hr later and the kid working there started to scold me about it but it wasnt a good time for him to scold me, sorry kid. Anyway, I am now getting a terrarium ready for a trophy size alligator lizard, that thing was so cool looking, a freak among lizards, could probably eat a small rat.
Camera, shmamera, easy come and easy go.

Sometimes you gotta temper the fancy [abalone] with the un-fancy [PBR!]. Maintain some balance, you know.
Great report+info Ben. Bummer about the headcam.

Nice Abs.  Thanks for the report and picture.  Too bad on your camera but consider it a "give back" for what we "harvest" from the ocean  :smt003

Strong work Ben, sorry about the head cam.

We can probably rig up a piece of meat on 30lb fluoro for the lizard.

My thoughts too, the harvest and all the great stuff Ive found along the way, someone is gonna be STOKED when the find that camera, and their gonna crack up when the see the last video with my dumm-ass mug lookin in all the wrong places. It probably floated and I was looking on the bottom.

The ocean giveth, and taketh.  I too have donated my share of goods to the big blue. All part of the price of admission. Sounds like a little redesign is order for the head cam... :smt002
