Stillwater Saturday 5/2

I was the flyfisherman.  Quite a crowd! Not sure how many but seemed like between the divers & the fishermen we were well into double-digits.

I landed 15 rockfish, about 1/2 of them legal size, of which I kept the 4 largest. Wind out of the south/southwest, so it pushed right into the Cove. A bit rough for me anyway, so I left a little earlier than I normally do. Hopefully it will be a little calmer this Sat. I'll  be back! Sorry about no pics - I promise some next week! Compared to last year, my records show similar rough water & strong winds, but worse fishing last year. Also of note is that for me 2008 was my worst year of the last 10. Hopefully 2009 will be better!

RE: the post in "Politics of Fishing" on rumor of parking change: no evidence of that on Sat. But maybe they'll do something after Memorial Day - that's when it seems to get more crowded with beach-goers & wedding parties. I did get some new wheels so I can more easily wheel the 'yak down from the parking area. Hope I don't need them!

Pindo, Thanks for the report. I was wondering how things went yesterday. I was out there Friday the first. A guy came out of the lodge after I had loaded our yaks and was tying them down. He said that there will be "No loading of unloading allowed between 11AM - 2PM this season." He also said they would be putting up signs to that effect soon. That is all I have heard about parking up there.

I am not surprised to hear that restricitons are being imposed there. I would imagine there will be more restrictions and an eventual banning of kayak fishing implemented by the Pebble Beach elite. Kayak fisherman don't exactly fit in with golf crowd there and fielded several sideways looks from some of them as the get ready to "T" off. Tread lightly and always leave no trace.  Mike

Thanks for the report Bill. You did pretty good out there. Most guys only caught 5-6 fish.
That parking closure during 11-2 has been on the books for years (on the back of the brochure/map) but they never enforced it.  

thanks for the heads ups Pindo.  I imagine fly fishing in the wind must take some real skill.  Hope to meet up with you there one these weekends.
