Increasing reports of halibut getting caught here, and I saw a few boats yesterday afternoon working the spot.

Went out this AM with Jake from the E Coast.  Beautiful sardines from Bocci Boy on S dock!  Day was cool and foggy with slight sw winds.

late start fishing by 9am.

Not a nibble

Not even a bolina rockfish today.

Spoke to one skiff fisherman who caught a small legal flattie earlier, but that was his only fish for the day.

Ah well, stacking up the hours starts now.  My son suggested I grow a beard again.  haha.  It's real early for SC halibut I am just stoked there's "a chance."

Oh yeah, had a whale come up 3 times right in front of me, about 15 feet away.  I  paddled over his wake slick.  Awesome, I think it was a grey whale (pretty sure).

thanks for the report.
I also met up with a small skiff fisherman that said he lost a nice one right in front of the harbor, literally 50 ft from the rocks.

Not sure if I buy that, but who knows.

I will keep punching the clock out there, sooner or later something's gotta bite.
I will be out there again this weekend, maybe friday.

Would love to carpool to ARW for a day.

Might give it a try the week after rockfish opens.
I am off fri, sat and sun every week.

Hey Pat (Sin Coast) when you decide to collect your full scoop from Bocci Boy, remember this is enough bait for all of the NCKA Board.  Let me know when you are collecting your scoop and I will join you to enjoy the "Booty".

Allen, I saw all those guys out there Tuesday afternoon.  How do they communicate to each other to be in the same spot at the same time?  If this was the place to be, I would definitely want to be in "The Loop", if not, I am just curious how they communicate and concentrate (perhaps to their disadvantage.).  With a Kayak, we more or less have to decide where we are going to go and stick to the plan, with a boat, you can change your mind at any time and quickly get to another place.

"With a Kayak, we more or less have to decide where we are going to go and stick to the plan, with a boat"

You got that right.....

that particular spot is pretty much visible from the harbor entrance.  So guys go out, see boats, and pull up there with high hopes.

also, there IS a local network, people talking to each other where the fish are biting etc.

Read reports, talk to your friends, plug yourself in.  Cal up baysice and Captiola Boat and Bait, they're usually pretty forthcomeing and they listen to the vhf all day.

Like that

Hi All
I have been looking at the beautiful conditions in santa cruz this week and am getting real itchy to get out. Hope to get a real fishing kayak this season and see some of you locals out there.

Thanks for the report Allen. You guys are so lucky to have sardines right now! I wish we had some bait in the bay already. Hopefully soon the bait boats will find some bigger chovies.

As per a report+pics on another site, one guy got his limit north of the harbor in 45ft. A group of 2 guys got like 3 legals and 6 shorties in the same place on Monday. Live bait from Bocci.

Fished in front of the harbor last Friday for one good bite but the fish came off. I was using a frozen mackerel, spoke with most other boats out and nobody had any halibut, just c&r rockies.
Motorized boats are for the lazy limp d!%k$
