NOAA forecast looks decent.

I'm looking to get out for a paddle/surf launch practice.  Maybe try to jig up some bait and go drift for halis?

Need a wetsuit - anyone know where I can rent one?

I could go for that. Shorter drive then to the Delta. Where you thinking of launching?

Last time me and the south crew were at the coast guard pier, there was a dive shop off to the left that had $50 used wetsuits for sale.  If your just starting out, not a bad way to go!

I cant do Sat, but was thinking of hooking up on Sunday, somewhere between SC and Monterey...

I may also be able to do early sunday morning but depends on the warden.  we are spending the weekend in monterey and she has told me to get out of her hair on saturday.  with the weather looking decent I might bring the yak, otherwise I'd leave it at home and shore fish.

Well, if that's the case, I would definitely do Capitola, MBK or Coastguard Pier.  You can catch a bunch of sanddabs out there right now, or try for Hali's.

As usual, I am up for another weekend trip.

Either Sat or Sunday, makes no diff to me.

I am going with a buddy to Loch Lomand Fri a.m.
We're gonna rent a boat there and try to get some hold over trout.

You guys decide where and when and I will try to hook up.

If that's the case (puke city), your best bet is probably the backside of Cannery Row, Stillwater Cove, or Capitola. You'll probably have the best luck targeting halibut in Capitola or along the beaches of Monterey.  I'm not sure about wetsuit rentals but would imagine with the diver circus at the Coast Guard pier every weekend, there must be a place nearby who rents. In fact now that I think of it, I usually see a rack outside one of the shops in the Coast Guard pier parking lot with used looking suits on it. Bring a sabiki setup and I'm positive you'll find some bait, if you end up fishing Monterey. I just ran into a guy last week at the Coast Guard pier who said he dives and spear fishes for 'butts. Rockfish season (May 1st) is just around the corner! I can't wait!

If you are in Monterey, Let me know. I am in Salinas. I have a 2XL wet suit I can let you borrow till you can get your own. (I have promised it to a young kid who is wanting to get into our madness but doesn't have the funds to get a yak yet) It is just too large for a lean, mean, humble hunk like me. If he chooses to not get into this madness I'll think about selling it. It is just hanging in a closet here if you need to use it for some fun this weekend. Let me know.

I dont even know what size wetsuit I need.  I'm a bit of a chunker these days but only 5'7.

Saturday is the best day for me, Sunday would be "with permission" so it would be preferable to do Capitola on Sunday for a few hours so I can get a rental for the wifey.

I have no problem going out both days =)) so anyone who is up for saturday pipe up and let's figure out a launch!

I'm driving over there probably tomorrow morning/afternoon.

Ben: you might also try Monterey Bay Kayak.  Last I checked they have used rental longjohn suits for VERY cheap.  They need to move out that used stuff, so they're pretty motivated, i.e., make em an offer.  I like the personnel in that shop very much, always extremely courteous to me.

Any dive wetsuit is gonna be a 2 pc farmer john 7 mil suit.....way too much suit to be comfortable in while doing any kind of paddling or crash landing.

Go to 41st ave and rent a 4 mil wetsuit for surfing.  I think Freeline has rentals.
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker

thanks for the wetsuit info, i'll check out mbk when i get a chance.  a 3mil farmer john is about what i'm looking for - i dont plan to hit the ocean on any really cold days anyways.  just need to figure out the sizing thats why a store is probably best.
