Hi, Fishunter.
To answer your questions, I have a Tarpon 130, Humminbird 597 GPS Fish finder combo. Standard Horizon HX 750S VHF radio, PDF , few Calstar rods: 700 M, 700 MH, 800 XL, few Accurate reels: 196, 270, 870, 665N, 665.  I don’t have experience fishing on the Bay from a kayak. My only experience paddling on the ocean was in Bocas del Toro Panama (Caribbean Sea). That is way I ask those questions. The reason way I ask you is just because no all fishermen’s have the experience fishing from kayak.  For you maybe sound so simple and I really sorry for ask in this forum. Maybe you need to add to the title of the forum: Professionals Kayak Anglers in that way you can avoid simple questions from amateurs.

Hi Sanperpe,
It sounds like you're well equipped and as long as you've practiced some self rescue techniques and have a wetsuit or waders to protect you from the cold water then you're probably ready to try the bay on a good day. As far as the questions and doing the search, I think Fishunter gave you some good advice. There's nothing wrong with what you asked and I think that he gave you the best opportunity to find the most complete answers to your questions. You'll find on this site that everybody is willing to help out when new folks come on board, but the answers you're seeking could fill a whole different post (and they have).  :smt002

The internet is a tough place to convey the nuances of communication, so I'll tell you that I don't think Fishunter was trying to be short with you or give the impression that this is about being a pro. From your first post it's tough to tell if you're a crusty fisherman that's been fishing 50 years in small power boats in the surf line, or if you never have seen a fishing rod and just bought your first yak, so no offense intended, but I think Fishunter's analysis of your post is about as good as anybody's could have been.

So welcome to the site! You'll find most people are more than willing to help out, all you need to do is be willing to take the advice you've asked for.  :smt006

Fishhunters reply to your questions, is based firstly on YOUR safety.  The fishing information & questions are perfect for this website.  You can find friendly folks on probably hundreds of fishing websites, but I suspect most of them might be snobby.  This site is not "Snobby"  and many will gladly share their experiences on the bay.  However, if your not familiar with the bay waters which are much colder than your last kayaking location, this is where Fishhunters concern for your safety and others here will lie.  You listed your fishing equipment, VHF & PFD which is good, do you have a wetsuit, or farmer Jon?  These items are necessary.  You will hear it said ofter on this site " Dress for immersion" because you never know when you might get tossed off your kayak!

Hello folks,

I was wondering if anyone has an extra VHF I could borrow for the get together
at Paradise. My radio fell off my PFD without me knowing. Good thing that Eric
had found it in a foot of water at the Shelter Cove launch. By then, it had already
been in the water for a couple of hours. It is dead now and I hope it would be
replaced under warranty. At least I will try. Sorry for the thread jack.

I'd offer you the backup that I ordered for the tourney Jed!   :smt006  However I seem to now be counting on the backup as being my primary, since mine was also killed by Shelter Cove!  :smt044  Really hoping it arrives in time, otw not sure what I'm gonna do!  I even ordered another one, but probably wont arrive until next week.  If you need one after that, let me know  :smt002

I may show up but not until later in the morning or early afternoon. Don't know who all is showing up, but if you know anyone from the Fremont area who is, I'm willing to give him/her my extra radio for you to use.

a radio is not completely necessary at paradise - its more for chit chat there =)  with the amount of kayakers + pbers who will be in the water there will be plenty of eyes if someone gets in trouble!
