Shot out to Bodega after work this morning with The Fam for some waves and while I was crossing the San Rafael Bridge,

There was a Armada of Fishing boats just South of the Bridge and Hanging over by Paradise, including one Party Boat, about a Dozen and Half at Least....

I know were wondering when the Hali's are coming into Form,  Maybe they got into them today...

Sure look like something was going on...

Bad pic of the Bay and boats, but if ya squint, ya get the idea and location....

Word.  With no salmon this year whats left of the 99 year class should pretty much get wiped out.  Bummer.

Tons of halibut were slayed last year. With a huge focus on them from all angles. Time will tell how the halibut #'s will fare from the slaughter last year. Here is one of them :smt003 I am just kidding about SBD's catch. The party boats have no qualms about killing fish after fish to make money. I know that we are a very small amount of people that take a small amount of fish. Halibut limits should be set to one fish per day per angler. Then a card just like we have to fish for numerous specie already. 10 max per year. I will probably get flak about this. On coastside a few years ago I just mentioned raising the abalone size to 8 inches and you would have thought I was crying for total freeze on ab diving. Sorry about the thread jack Don. Craig

I'd agree with that.

(continued threadjack)

One day last summer I caught a legal halibut at Paradise then released it due having caught fish on multiple trips prior and was looking for an AOTY one. Awhile later a commercial guy joined us and promptly scooped up 11 fish in the same area. I know nothing about the life/breeding cycles of halibut, but a reduction of limits, report cards and comm'l quotas (probably already in place?) would make better sense than what we have now. Just my two cents......

I agree with you guys about the 1 a day limit and ten per year card as long as the card comes free. I'm tired of all the monetary add-ons.

I think just seeing people considering C&R (catch and release) is a good sign.  Never heard of C&R with the big striped Bass many years ago and now everyone is being educated about the breeders and releasing them to grow the population.  Hopefully someone will provide some solid facts so sport fishermen can do the right thing with the Halibut.

Looks like it's going to be another great year for Halibut fishing but don't forget about the bass which are pound for pound the best fighter in our waters.  I read the latest Western Outdoors magazine and they had an article that mentioned saving the Salmon by catching the Striped Bass that are ambushing them before they can get to the ocean.  Still haven't gone out and fished all year so many thanks to everyone who is posting reports.

I love catching buts, but I also released many before forking ol' flat bastard. A season would be much more effective at protecting them than a limit reduction.

Growing up in New England I can remember flounder were everywhere 10-15 flukes were not uncommon.  I wnet out with my uncle a couple of years ago and if you could catch a  keeper all the power to you. We caught 15 fish that day of that 4 were flounder and 1 was a keeper.  Mismanagement on the East Coast is huge, and because the states are smaller there are 14-15 different state laws to deal with.  So if one state is to strict go down the coast a ways (hey in Rhode Island that doesn't take long), and find something that suits you better.  Stripers were so over harvested it wasn't funny, then you hardly saw them, they are making a comeback now.  Brother in law caught a 43 pounder in Block Island Sound last year, gorgeous fish!

I'm down with either or both-- season and season take limit.

i released a LOT of keeper hallies last year. i am not a big fan of freezing it, and can only eat so much!
