I had a great day on the water today.  Much better than last weekend (5 fish Saturday, and one on Sunday).  The fish were back in shallow and eating Texas-rigged worms like candy.  I had three or four standard-sized LMB (1-3 pounders) by 9:00.  So I kept working the same bank a second time.  Flipped my worm against a tule and let it slide in without a ripple.  As I took up the slack, I could see my line was moving and I set the hook on a nice bass.  She took some line and had a few hard runs and a couple head shakes at the surface.  Finally I got it in the net, got some pics and weighed her at 8 pounds, 1 ounce (pic 1).

A third trip down the bank paid off with two more fish, including this nice 4 pound, 2 ounce LMB (pic 2).  I ended the day with 12 bass (one dink, but all the rest were pretty good chunkers) on Texas-rigged worms and crankbaits.

On the way in I spotted a large dead fish, which I thought was a carp or catfish, but it turned out to be this huge Largemouth Bass, 27 inches long and weighed over 15 pounds (pics 3, 4, and 5).  It didn't have any blemishes, wounds, or any other signs of trauma.  Maybe it had just lived out its years and passed on.  It was pretty stinky and looked like it had been dead for a few days.  Too bad I couldn't have seen her thrashing in my net instead of floating belly up.

Have fun out there, and may all the LMB I catch live as long as that fish did!

That is a kick ass day out there.  Makes my chores seem even more crappy!  I scrapped morning fishing plans because the wind was crazy out my way.

Huge bass you found there.  Gives a sneak peek to what is lurking in the tules.  Oh well, I'd rather see it floatin' than in a bucket.

Amen to that, and RIP to the ONE that GOT away!

Great report Bryan. That top pic is a nice fish.
I've ran across a couple big floaters, but not that big.

Thanks for the report, Al

Totally awesome post.  Finding that big carcass is a rare event - 27"??!!!  You've got to be kidding me!  Correct me please, but I think the biggest AOTY LMB in the past few years have been in the 24" range...

Also, everyone's right, that first pic is the bomb - nice one, Bryan.  Quality as always.   :smt001

Bass God...I see so many pictures of you with huge LMBs.

I'm also interested in a catch-picture-release hookup.

I wonder if Fish and Game have any of their team members that would be interested in dissecting that dead fish?  Just a thought!
