After becoming a kayak owner 4 weeks ago I finally had the opportunity to take her out on Sunday. Launched at the dog park in FC at 10am and trolled for 3 hours for nada. I wasn't really expecting much but I'm not going any ware near the water without a rod. I quickly got comfortable in my yak and I look forward to fishing with you guys.

Hi BML and welcome to the madness. The above advice is very good. Take your time and learn the basics. There is nothing more important than safety. Hope to see you on the water someday.

:smt006  My recommendation for you is to start using leashes on your rods and everything you don't want to loose over the side now. ( I don't see one on the rod in the picture, reason for me suggesting you start now.)  I hate to read anything about lost equipment, (Yard sales) when 99% of everything lost could have been saved with some kind of leash.  (A simple length of para cord with a loop in the end will work, a leash doesn't need to be fancy, just something to tir your equipment to the kayak!)
Yeah, the leashes may get in the way sometimes, but if used, you won't loose that fav rod & reel to the deep!  As time goes by, you'll figure out where the best anchor point are, and where you can leash things to be out of the way.

Forgot to say Good to meet you @ the AOTY awards, Ramsey. The Scrambler is a fine boat--I owned 1 of the old-school models and used it in the ocean without problems.
Rod leashes are cheap+easy to make. I don't personally use them (except during rough surf launches/landings in the ocean). And I have never lost a rod ... after about 100 trips on the ocean over the last 4 years.

Welcome and congrats. I am still new to this and love it. A few guys in this group took me out on monterey bay last weekend. I have been trying to get a few hours free all week just to get back on the water (my next 4 days are spoken for). There is always something more to learn. Hope to meet you out there soon.
