The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

:smt023 hopefully, I'll be able use my new "sturgeon-be-cool-stick"

...it's a telescopic baton that the cops use  :kungfu  It's very cool but VERY ILLEGAL to carry.... :smt018 .....a former cop friend of mine gave it to me.

Here's my decision process for that weekend.

if (big_ass_snowstorm) go_to_Tahoe
else if (river_in_good_shape)  go_to_Russian
else go_sturgeon_with_speedo_banana_bunch

or possibly

if (saturday) go_sturgeon_with_speedo_banana_bunch
if (sunday) go_to_Russian

Speedo Bannana Bunch is such a mis-nomer, there was only one guy with the leopard print bannana hammock and that was Joel.

Houston we might have a problem. The Super Bowl Sturgeon Derby is this weekend. I think it is going to be pretty crowded out there and the bait pretty scarce.

Maybe we should give Alviso a shoot and try to avoid the crowds?

Good point Bill, I'm in for Alviso. I'm currently getting info from a guy who has lead trips down the Alviso slough, Dean McCulley, just trying to do the homework before we get out there.  Who else wants to blaze the South Bay trail?

Also, decent SB reports from coastside for the weekend, seems like there may have been a herring spawn.

Here are the tides for Coyote Creek/Alviso Slough:

2005-02-05  3:27 AM PST   4.00 feet  Low Tide
2005-02-05  4:36 AM PST   Moonrise
2005-02-05  7:07 AM PST   Sunrise
2005-02-05  8:49 AM PST  10.47 feet  High Tide
2005-02-05  1:46 PM PST   Moonset
2005-02-05  5:00 PM PST  -1.06 feet  Low Tide
2005-02-05  5:37 PM PST   Sunset
2005-02-05 11:37 PM PST   7.44 feet  High Tide

That is a pretty massive swing 10.47 to a -1.06!!

Art, once you get a good reading on launch spots let us know.

Where is a good place to get grass shrimp and/or eel in San Jose.

Living History: Located at the very end of the bay, Vahl's Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge has been serving diners, drinkers and kayak anglers! since 1941.

Vahl's
1513 El Dorado (near Taylor), San Jose (408/262-0731)
Tagged onto the end of a quiet street in Alviso, homey Vahl's is a swellegant reminder of how our forebears used to live it up. The cocktail lounge and dining room are distinctly Midwestern: a little kooky, in the best sense of the word, but accommodating. It's the kind of place where the hostess will mention that she's been there for 56 years, and it's understood that that's a good thing. Allow plenty of time for dinner as it takes a while to get through the multiple courses. Make a go of it, though, or the motherly waitress might grouse that you didn't clean your plate before she brings dessert. Open 8am9pm.

Could be fun afterwards Count me in I need to get the lines wet.

Mike
