Got a late start and didn't get there till after 10. The lady ranger gave Molly a dog biscuit at the entry which she appreciated.  :smt007 Passed inspection with no problems but I did spend about 15 minutes cleaning my yak before getting to the lake. The ranger was very nice and polite. Launched around 1030 and headed to the far end pulling a J7 firetiger and J7 brook trout. Nothing happening on the surface but did mark a few fish from 18-25 feet down. After an hour, switched to a JSR5 bliue shad and TDD7 rainbow trout. Would have used a downrigger but my tandem is not set up for it. On my Hail Mary lap around the lake had a massive take down on the TDD7 near the fishing pier. Was trolling with a 150' set back and saw the trout jump in the distance, OMG it's a good sized trout!!!  :smt003 Eventually got the trout near the boat but it kept making run after run. Molly was pretty stoked when the fish went aerial right next to her. Finally brought the fish to the net and the lure came unbuttoned just as I lifted the fish out of the water. Got the fish on the game clip to the applause of some shore anglers. Walked Molly around the lake before heading home at 1:30 and was thankful that kayaks set me free from being a bait soaking shore angler.  :smt005 Beautiful warm day on the water. Molly stayed in the boat this time which was nice. The trout was 18". Rapala Deep Tail Dancer - next best thing to downriggers. Awesome finish, balsa wood rattle, sexy tail action and dives to 15', what more can I say.

Great report Scott.  Can't beat a day like today on the water with your pooch - all the while catching fish.

Awe, so that is what TDD stands for.  You posted about it in another thread and I hadn't got around to looking it up.  Thanks for the picture too.

Very nice Scott. WTG on the rainbow. Thanks for the report and pictures. Looking
forward to fishing with you. I hope I can learn some technique and what not how
to catch these fish without using powerbait.

How do you get your dog to stay in the kayak?

My dog Angus either likes to go for random swims or gets so exited my the fish he jumps out of the kayak when it gets near the boat, and tries to catch it... :smt100

Still working on the kayak fishing with dogs thing, but last time at Del Valle, Molly went for a swim a few times and got a little chilled  :smt101. I think the hypothermia memory in combination with a short leash and extra dog treats kept her in the boat this time.

Nice fatty rainbow... Molly is becomeing quite the seasoned kayakfishing partner...as for the lure ... sure is different the "stick" baits I remember... I guess I gotta pay a bit more attention
