Got on the road out of Sac 8am, call Suison Bait, no grass or Ghost shrimp.... :smt009

Hit a few more shops on the way with no luck, call back Suison Bait... Pileworms... OK pileworms it is...

Sunny at Suison hooks me up thick with the Gnarly Buggers and get out to Beldons Landing with a Good wind Blowing, still doable and work my way to " The Cabana's "... BTW... Parking lot is Full with trailers parked out side of the Ramp area... lots of Boats working the area...

Nothing happening except a small tap, move around to the Fishhunter Spot in 40' of water...

couple boats jump the spot after a while and I realize that if I hook up, these guys are going to be a problem.... little forshadowing here.... :smt002

Pull anchor and give myself about 200 yards and re-anchor, and as luck would have it, the boats move to the middle of the slough...

it's getting about 1:30, I have to be on my way by 1:45 to Get " The Fellas " :smt052
From school and off to some after school activities...

I've been putting 4 to 6 worms on a Hook without much luck, so load'em up with about a Dozen...
Huge Glob of these nasty Critters... was not 2 Minutes....

"Tap.... "  Oh, I Know he will be back if he got a taste of that.... " Slam!!!!!! "

" Fish On!!!!!!!! "  Feels about average at first and I stay anchored up,
it soon changes as I tried to Horse'em in because I got to go... ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

" Holy S@!@##@!!!! " I slow him down a bit, but man total power!!!  I'm thinking I can tire him down, but he just keeps getting stronger and now is going behind me, time to release the anchor.... :smt009

Now I'm totally at his mercy, it's dragging me towards the middle of the slough and the wind and current are taking towards the anchored boats... " F#@!!@#!!! :smt011 "

I'm using the Hobie Drive to try to get a better angle as I'm drifting towards the Boats, but it's just no use and the Fish is Pulling Harded,..  Unbelievable Power...

I hit my Nightmare, the fish swims under the anchored boat and I'm drifting around the front of the anchor line, I'm able to get myself to the front of the anchored boat before I pass over the anchor line..

The Guys on the boat are Going Crazy saying " Come on the Boat!!!!  Hand me your Rod!!! Etc Etc.... "

 " I can't, I'm in a Competion and can't have any help     :smt108 :smt104

" But, do you mind me bumbing your boat as i try to pass under your anchor line??? "

"Go for it!!!"   I don't know how, but I make it thru and the fight is back on, I try to crank down on it and it takes another hard run, feels more powerful than Ever.... :smt009

I start to get a feeling that I'm going to lose this battle... :smt010

I'm just stunned by the power of this fish,

and know my WAF is going right into the Toilet if I'm late getting the Kids, which I am, this fight has been going on for about 20 minutes so far...

Again, I'm at the Mercy of this fish and were headed for another anchored boat..

Were getting close I'm trying to turn him and I begin to feel the anchor line rubbing on my line...

 " Snap!!!! '    :smt099

I knew I was going to lose, Never really had any control over this fish,

Consolation was it was most probably way oversized, and 2nd, I got the kids where they needed to be by the skin of my Teeth.... :smt003

I'll be thinking this one out for the rest of my life, I had moved my position to account for other boats, but still went to them like a Magnet when the fight was on. I stayed anchored for as long as I thought I could before it would become tangleled in my line...  I'm not sure what I could have done differently....

I even had the advantage of the Hobie drive and it did come into play, but not enough.... :smt009

Oh well, Great To have such a Terrific Fight,  been a while...

Lots of people out on Montezuma, heard some talk of " Alot of Bites and take downs... "
but, mine was the only action that I saw...

Sturgeon Jumping and Monty's looks as though it's coming on....

Still Bummed me out to the Point I fell off " The BLOTY Wagon "

and drowned my sorrows in Saturated fat   :fat

 AHhhhh... All Better Now........ :smt002

Nice story Danglin... I've been taken to the wood shed by a big 'un at Monty's too... from the sounds of it, that fish would have had you going for an hour plus.  Unreal!  Gotta love the action!

Gotta love it when something affects your life to the point that you forgoe conventional assistance and power through a battle like that solo.  Nice one.   :smt001

Don:

what a heartbreak!  anything you could have done?  Dunno, except maybe letting the anchor loose sooner, but I probably would have done the same thing in you position with the shoulder-hopping PB's in the mix.

Nice to feel the power though, eh?

Almost time for me to get back out there on the dino Hunt.

Keep the action coming Danglin!

Big Fish like that learn things on the way to being BIG FISH.... I think She knew where she was going(anchor lines and PBs).... and you didn't have the open space or the time....Nothing else you could have done....My sympathies....I even understand the "cholesterol fix at Jacks" Great report....Awesome "one that got a way" story.

Monty has turned out one over 6FT for me and It has always amazed me how a big fish seems to have a plan the instant it's hooked and how the escape will work. Thanks for the great story.

Sorry you lost the fish Don, but that had to be one of the best write-ups I've seen here recently.
