In college I bought my first camera - a 35 mm Pentax with a 70-200 zoom.  I enjoyed documenting the adolescent madness of camping trips, day hikes, and what now seem like primitive fishing and diving excursions.  Ah, the formative years!...  I placed photos in albums up until around the early 90's, but ran out of steam at some point.  Between the end of the album era and the beginning of the digital revolution for me I ended up with a few boxes full of pics and negatives that have long sat neglected - only inventoried once every few years, nostalgically over a few late night brews.  I decided to pick through for fish shots that I could scan and share, but lots of other stuff ended up on the project table.  I put together this video to show the character of where "Abking" came from.  It's not really a name you know, as much as it's a way to live.  I hope you enjoy it, and thanks in advance for devoting a little time and some positive energy to watching it and re-living a little of my life with me.   :smt001

Wow...what an inspiring piece of work!  Great job, Abking!  I like the tunes too.  :smt004  Once again you've set the bar high for those of us thinking of creating our own videos.

I too have photos going back waaaaay to far that need to be placed in albums.  I started scanning some of the old karate pics after a friend & fellow black belt passed away a few months ago...I was looking for some pictures of us training in the old days and pulled out my bag of photos.  I was shocked to learn that my "bag" had turned into a box and a half of unsorted pictures, still sitting in enveloped...about 6 years worth.  That didn't count the 12 finished photo albums either.  I pulled out the best pics and started scanning them, and ended up with a pile of 100-200 more "good ones" that are sitting next to my computer.  A daunting task, especially on my old POS computer...  :smt009

Always thinking ahead, however, I gave my sister a nifty little piece of technology for her birthday.  It scans old slides and film negatives into digital format...I plan on borrowing it soon!  :smt003

Very nice work Uncle Abbie!
Those shots of big abs at Pigeon Pt are really weird. To think that it was legal to harvest abs south of SF is a revelation.....wonder if they'll ever reopen that area.
Thanks for sharing!

Is that the little box for about $100 that Costco sells online?

Might be...I got it at Bed & Bath on sale for about the same price.  Don't remember the brand since it was early December when I bought it.  Looked pretty simple tho (had to be for her, she's computer-illiterate).  :smt002  Plugs into the USB port, slides or negatives feed in thru the side of the unit and press a button.  I'm waiting to see if she's used it...if not I'm going to offer to "demonstrate how easily it works" for her.  :smt002

I'd be interested in your opinion of the quality of the scans. Currently, I use a slide copier attachment that fits onto the lengs of a Nikon Collpix 990 camera and just point at a white light while copying.

No problem...I'll post a few examples here once I upload some pictures using the device.

Sorry for the unintentional thread-jack, Abking!
