If weather permits (low winds) planning to dig some clams on Feb 6.

Launch time: 1 pm
Launch site: Off HWY 1, right before the HWY turns inland. See map attached. Does anyone have a good site to launch from around that area? GPS Coordinates would be greatly appreciated.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

Sounds like fun and I love clams; but no-can-do on Friday. Good luck!

Do like Mikey says.Go to Lawsons Landing and park all the way to the end of the parking lot. If it wern't for the channel you could walk to the clam beds. A big sand island right across from the parking lot. The further you get away from close access the better.

i have done clam digging a couple of times there.  i launched from lawson's landing.  it's a short and easy ride from there.  park your car next to the office building and launch by the pier.  the entry fee is $8.

if you don't mind, show me a pick of those clams.  I am curious if my recipe for Manhatten Clam chowder and Clam Cakes would work with those, this might be a reason to head up that way in a future weekend.

These are what they look like.
I have used them for chowder and clam cakes, and they are great.
The trick to cleaning them is to remove the necks, then freeze them. Let them thaw and the black skin will come off under a medium jet of water...

Then I just grind up the necks in a food processor or chop them very fine.
Sorry for the threadjacking...

That sounds like fun and the timing would be perfect for me. Although something always seems to come up at the last minute. I'll confirm closer to the date

I think the name "Horse neck" clam was altered to be PC. :smt003

There are also the hard shell Washington clams there, they have better body meat and a small neck. Look for a keyhole shape hole in the sand.

We used to get steamers around the rocky areas by using a rake after digging a hole in the gravel.

Limits mean 10 Horseneck, 10 Washington, and 50 steamers if you can hold up. Oh I forgot the Geoducks at 3, they are a lot of work.

After you clean those necks, (it takes about a six-pack to dig 'em and a 12-pack to clean 'em) slit them up the middle, pound and cook them like Abs. Dee-lish!
The fishing was so good I thought I was there yesterday!

Okay I dumb and niave to the West Coast thing, but wouldn't a bull rake be easier?  It looks you guys were arm pit deep there digging fox holes or something.  Damn those are some huge clams!  little necks are much smaller and damn fine eats.  Nothing like a good bucket of steamies, some drawn butter and a cold one! If you folks ever get back east you should try them, I get em every time I go back, that and snail salad. Damn I am thinking of going after those buggers!
