I guess I'm sort of on the fence about the new Coastside site (now $25).  Is everyone joining the new site?  A couple of Washington salmon/steelhead sites tried this and now they are back to being free sites.  I know its really not that much money, but I didn't use the site that much.  Just interested to see how much the site might change.

I'm not sure what the point is. I've come to see the value of these fishing sites as good sources of political information, but I don't know why we have to pay for it. If I can get it here, then maybe I don't need to pay for Coastside, although I haven't cancelled it out yet.

I'm IN, from reading allot of stuff on their site recently it's hard to tell how politically involved they will be in the future, They appear on planning to be considerably less so than in the past, but they have built relationships that will help in the future. Connections, power in numbers, stuff like that.

Some things to condsider: politically NCKA is almost powerless (IMHO)
(Sean yes, NCKA who knows) I'm not ignoring Sean's considerable influence, but the subject of this note is Coastside.

Coastside I'm not so sure about, if you took the time to become involved in the MLPA fiasco, you know that without them there would have been much much less sportsman participation at the public comment meetings, (you saw how the diving community turned out :smt011) Who knows what the MPAs would look like without Ben Sleeter.  The "Sea of White" was Coastside.

Actually now that I think about it and write this,  at the very least I would question anyone's commitment to active defense of their right to fish if they don't join at least for the first year or so to see how things work out.

And I haven't been in a power boat for about 5 years now, but I still pay attention to all their reports to help me plan my yak attacks.

Yep I'm IN.

Good points...I learned everything about the MLPA from them and wouldn't have gone to the meetings if I hadn't have learned about it (obviously). I guess $25 isn't so bad...

I wouldn't pay for the Forum our report are much better, but I'm in for the Political Side of it 2 yrs ago I think the Salmon Fishing would have closed without them, but I hope they give Sean and EK a freeride for all they do, and they were Smart enough to get rid of Fishface.

Yeah, I'm in.  Just because the MLPA fight is more or less over in north/central CA, there will be other political fights and Coastside is in our corner.

Whether the new model will work or not... time will tell.  In my mind everyone who's serious about protecting our fishing rights should have been giving at least $25 a year to Coastside anyway, so I don't have a problem paying up.

I just hope it won't affect the proceeds from the Elk raffle too badly.

The main reason I check coastside is for salmon reports to see if they're near moss or pacifica, with salmon shut down there's not much reason to visit and I don't think I've been to their site in over a year.

This is a incredible forum, the people are amazing!! I have never seen any abusive behavior on this forum. I would be happy to pay the 25 bucks, If Sean endorsed Coastside, but would be just as happy to donate 25 dollars to any fund that Sean endorsed. I was talking with a friend about getting a life license to hedge against future price increases, The bottom line is I would pay 200 dollars for a license if I had to, and feel that Ca license is a great deal. Kayak fishing is amazing, and I am HOOKED!!!!!!

I will gladly make a donation if it would help the fight, however I don't care to join there site because every time i log on i have to jump through a political barrage just to check the reports.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very concerned about the political Tearanee being put upon fisherman but sometimes i just want to go fishing and relax

I probably won't ante-up for the "new" CS site. At least, not until they clarify how my donation is going to be spent. And there are plenty of free sites on the net with better (less biased) information anyways.

This is all subjective but at the end you have to ask yourself what you have done to assist in trying to retain what little we have in our fishery.  I'm not promoting Coastside which has changed over the years and the political battle has taken it's toll on the site.  I don't have the time so I try to pitch in where I can and $25 is a bargain compared to the cost of driving around to find the latest bite.  If you can help, you should toss em a bone.  I know it's hard times right now but I think it's worth the subscription.

I joined with reluctance yesterday. I was glad that they all showed up in April last year to voice strong opinions about Dux and salmon fishing there( moot now). What I was unhappy about is the fact that they announced the meeting in San Rafael on the website but with one touch of a button they could have e-mailed the info to everyone who had thier e-mail address in the system.Hence I did not find out about the meeting until post-meeting. They sold out the divers for Salt Point. Didn't even bring it up.Powerboaters are concerned with one thing, fishing from powerboats.I honestly believe thatthey could give a shit about divers and kayakers( I have been on a boat at Dux and heard trash talk about bluekayaker before).Anyway the riff-raff will be weeded out now and there are some good guys on the site. Also with a click I can get a lot of weather info and a wide assortment of reports. So for 25bucks it's not bad. But I have to say that members on this site are my preference for fishing. There is a common bond that runs deep here. Friendship, conservation and fishing.

All we really need is one watch dog to go over there and check out the political threads to keep the rest of us up to date - why don't we all split a membership?
