Launched solo around 8:15, nobody else around that I knew of. (Later, I would find out that scott and gary were crabbing and fishing just south of me). water was a little angrier than I would like, but launched and landed uneventfully. no wind.
swell definitely coming up this afternoon I think.

I fished for about 3 1/2 hours, it was a scratchy bite, with a LOT of small blues wasting my time, not to mention a few gophers that got a free elevator trip to the surface. I did catch and release a C**ary, a big one, in 60 feet, while trooching. very cool.

I kept a number of fish (verm, china, 5 blacks) today since it might be the last time out this year although I have a santa cruz rental for a month starting next week so might fish if I don't surf.

my ling streak is over, well I can't complain, I had a number of lings in the 24-27 inch range this year.

Very nice John. Kind of threw me off with the photo in your report.  :smt005 Things were slower fishing wise at Pigeon Point. Gary found the dungie motherlode and shared some with me and Etienne.  :smt003 We called you on the VHF several times to see if you wanted to join us but at 630AM we figured you were still in bed. You missed my showdown with the Queen of Hearts.  :smt010

Nicely done! Looks like a few more dinners for the family. The black look pretty good sized. What was the favorite bait/lure of the day?

yeah, I figure a pic once a year is fine,  :smt044, especially if I was out solo and the next day will be unfishable,  :smt002.

Ken, I would say that the teasers (saltwater flys), a chartruese deceiver or blue and white clouser, enticed the most fish although many were small.

a 5" black and purple (overcast day?) anchovy big hammer swimbait nabbed a few gophers.  normally those things kick butt but it came up short today. lings love a swimbait.

the vermillion hit a 3.5 oz. williams abyss sardine pattern iron that I got on ebay for cheap cause the shrink wrap was crooked (fixed with pen knife!). but I was not jigging it, I was trooching up drift slowly. I had the hook on the middle attachment point. Didn't think that iron would work at all, it's so bottom heavy, but it apparently works well.

No gear lost today!

I did tip with squid today at times and that seemed to matter.

just ate the vermillion for dinner. believe it or not, hard to finish with 4 at the table and my 8 and 11 year old ate their share, the verm was not long, but quite the fatty and a true specimen with super clear flesh.

I did bleed all my fish today, BH or not. It does seem to make the fillets cleaner.

Scott, I got up at 5:45 today, I thought that would be early enough but I was not able to launch until 8:15, I guess I am just slow! the tequila last night might have had something to do with it,  :smt012. I heard some chatter on 69 today, but it was PB-ers I believe.

Thanks for stopping and saying hi, Scott, I think that is the first time we met in the flesh! Gary, you are famous, I knew who you were  :smt002, no introduction needed.

glad the rain is rinsing my kayak, cause it's still on the truck! maybe I will just toss the lures in the backyard, I'm beat...

Nice fish, way to hit it. I was hoping to get out Sunday, but weather doesn't look favorable.

Way to get out and do it, JM.  And the annual photo is a good one too.   :smt002

Now let's see the movie of Scott's showdown with the cattle boat!   :smt003

Gary and I were fishing just south of Pigeon Point. I saw the QOH coming from the north about 1 mile out heading right for me fast. I told Gary we had a PB incoming and reeled up my line in case I had to move quickly. Got out my flare gun, camera and switched my VHF to 16 and held my position. About 100 yards out he slightly changed course and passed about 30 yards to my starboard at full throttle. Got some nice shots of the drive by.

Way to make these last windows count John. I was fixing raingutters and stacking firewood.

I did not catch a single Verm up there this year, so it's nice to see that there still one or two left.
