This is for Saturday around Humboldt.  Looks like even the crabs will be puking. :smt009

Looks like I will have more time to build a Crab trap :smt009

Does anybody knows how deep you need to go to get crabs?

I've gotten them as shallow as 20 feet and as deep as 90 (i only have 100 feet of rope on my kayak pots).  Comercial guys and party boats will fish deeper, but you normally don't have to go much deeper.  If there is big swell and strong current, I have found deeper gets better results.  When calm, it can go either way.  I usually start in 60 to 80 feet.

Looks like the weather will not be good for a beach launch/landing. I will most likely postpone a week unless the weather changes for the good.

NOAA
S WINDS 5 TO 10 KT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 2 FT.
W SWELL 9 TO 11 FT AND S 2 FT. CHANCE OF SHOWERS.

Point and Click
has it NW swell 10-11 no period length yet but the prvious days are every 10 seconds.  Variable 2 foot S swell @12 sec.  Wind S-SW 7-8 gusting to 10

Crab is my absolute favorite bounty but....there just crabs.  Be safe, be smart.

I should also add that HMB is usually a nice spot to launch cause its protected from NW wind and swell. According to the forecast thats not the case this weekend.

phil,
we might be able to go crabbing after all.  the weather forecast has gotten a little better:

 SUN
SW WINDS 5 TO 10 KT. WIND WAVES 2 FT OR LESS.
 W SWELL 5 TO 8 FT AT 12 SECONDS AND S 2 FT AT 14 SECONDS.
 CHANCE OF SHOWERS.

it seems doable.  don't you think?
let's see what it will say tonight.
