I went down to a buddies ranch south of san luis reservoir to do some work for him . As I am driving in on the ranch I look up and see Three pigs on the side of the hill about 150 yards. Threre was a very big sow ,a little baby and this smaller one. POW i shoot it and it rolls down the hill about 10 ft from the road. Time to butcher it up and make some sausage.      jim Ricker

Good job , killed 2 pigs with one shot, possibly more  ( unseen piglets ) ! Likely the baby won't make it without its mother . How about some hunting ethics to go along  the good fishing ethics in use by most on this board ! Would have been better to shoot the middle size one , some may dissagree , but personally I don't agree with shooting sows with piglets .

Don't see a tag , wheres the tag ?

We want little guys and big sows to keep the pigs breeding on the ranch.I used a 270 . It gvae me Two back straps, loins and 50 Lbs of linguisa.Tag is in right hock.I did shoot the middle one.

Congrats Jim! No explanation needed here. You can tell by looking at the photo that this is not the wet sow. I too don't shoot Pigs with piglets and it's obvious you didn't in this case. Good job.

Toddler-pigs that weigh more than, say, 20-pounds, are GOOD target.

1)  Tender.
2)  What, with the lack of head and "chest-gristle" development, you get a higher percentage of meat/animal.
3)   You eat the WHOLE animal.....because at that size you can scald the entire animal in boiling water (3-mins) and then scrape it, and spit it over wood or briquettes.....and essentially prepare a spit-barbeque-luau.    And good?

Oh, I'm salivating right now.

I love this type of post. It makes me wish I had more friends that hunt. Fresh sausage and fresh pork is awesome. It beats the crap they sell in a supermaket!

Here's a pig we got while hunting near King City. Completely dressed, hanging in the locker at 130lbs. Jalapeno/Cheddar Sausage made with wild boar, GREAT STUFF :smt002
