I'm in the market for a new boat and starting my feature comparison. Info on the Trident 13 is a bit thin so any experiences or advice on speed/stability relative to its big brother would be appreciated.

I noticed the listed weights of the 13 and the 15 are identical (60lbs.). Is this true?

No the 15 is definitely heavier than the 13.  I have paddle the 15 a bunch and only a few minutes in the 13.  They actually have very different personalities. I LOVE the layout of the 15, and having it in a 13 is nice.

Thanks. How would you rate the speed of the 13?

I have a trident 15 and my kid is paddling a trident 13.  15 is definitely heavier.  With my bulk in the 15, its pretty dry.  In the 13, pretty wet.  The 15 seems to track better and be a bit faster, both really stable.

SBD is right though, if it wasnt for the rod pod thing, you would think they were different boats.

With my bulk

Please define.

I am at 215 right now and my T-15 is totally dry and I don't remember much if any water in the cockpit of the T-13 either.

I'm 185, and generally a minimalist with regard to gear so I would imagine the 13 would likely be dryish for me.

Info still seems a bit thin on the 13. A demo looks like the only way I'm going to get what I need.

I'm 180 with standard fishing gear and currently paddling a Trident 13.  I do get some water in the foot wells, but the seat is nice and dry.

As for a review.. I'm still working on that.  So far I love it, but my problem is that a.) I've upgraded from a much shorter and slower boat and  b.) I've also upgraded my paddle from an el cheapo model to a high end Lendel paddle.  I'm just sure if it's the paddle or the kayak at this point.

I can attest to the deck layout (along with the rest of the Tridents) as being one of the best I've seen.  I'm not so convinced by the 'sonar shield', but the rod pod has been great.

I'd offer to let you demo my demo Trident 13, but I'm in Portland, OR.

I am also in the market for the trident 13. I still have the Outback which I love but, I don't want to use it in the ocean anymore. Too many moving parts to worry
about all the time. I guess I should do the same which is to paddle one first before
buying it. Could somebody tell me the difference between the angler edition and the
non angler?

Thanks

The angler edition includes a couple rod holders, the rod pod (for easy rod storage and access) and a nice nylon battery bag that hangs in the bow of the kayak keeping your battery above any water sloshing around.

I dont know if it still the same but the difference last year was the angler had two rod holders, a battery bag, a small plano tray and some 'angler graphics."  They both had the rod pod, sonar shield so you can save some bucks with the nonangler model and install the rodholders at the angle you like.

Thanks for the info.

Do you have any idea what the ballpark weight is?

FYI, the non angler Trident 13 or 11 I saw at Aquan sports did not have a rod pod.

I'm sure Mooch can clarify.

Correct - The non-angler models do not have the rod pod but the angler models do...

Prowler Trident 11 / Angler : 54 pounds / 30.5 wide
Prowler Trident 13 / Angler : 60 pounds / 29.5 wide

The Prowler 15 and 13 are no considered the "Classic Line" and will no longer be in production (Aquan has 'em for 30% off and are in limited stock...call to confirm on availability - (650) 593.6060)

* If any of you want to demo both models, send me PM. Aquan Sports has a boat house location right next to the San Mateo lagoon (Parkside Aquatic). We also give NCKA members 10% off for the kayak and another 10% off the accessories you get with the kayak (PFD, Paddles....) Aquan is also a proud sponsor for many NCKA events. :smt002
