Mooch,

Can you giva quick compare/contrast between the 15 and 13 Trident speed, stability, comfort?

And again, the specs show the 13 angler and the 15 angler as the same weight, 60 lbs. Can you shed any light on this?

THe 2009 OK catalog does say that the Prowler Trident 15 and Prowler Trident 13 are both listed at 60 pounds but the capacity on the 15 is 500-550 lbs. and the 13 is 425 - 475 lbs.

I've paddle the T15 but have not had a lot of paddle time on the T13 so I can't really give you an honest comparison BUT we do have both kayaks in our boathouse rental. Give me a time and day and I can meet you and have you paddle both.

I've been spending more and more time on my T13.  I gotta tell you, I'm falling in love with this yak.  So much so that the last time I went out on the T15 I really felt like it was a BIG kayak, perhaps too big for most of what I do.  I'm going back to the T13 and rigging it out fully.  I didn't quite do a full rig as I usually only do that on my main kayak.  I think I'm going to do the Howard McKim bungie rigging.

I've had the T13 in surf and on lakes and the sound.  It tracks well enough, has much better turning/handling than the T15, surfs well, is dry to me (215#), and I love the open footwells.  It feels faster to me than the T15, probably because it is so responsive and a joy to paddle.  I haven't actually GPS'd the speed on the T13 so I don't know if it really is faster.  It definitely is lighter than the T15 and being shorter it is easier to handle on land and when putting it on the roof.

Interesting update: It was bugging me that I couldn't find an accurate weight for the T13 so I called customer service at OK. The rep first said that the T13 Angler was 60lbs and the T15 Angler was 65lbs. He later said the T13 Angler was 58lbs and the T15 Angler was 60lbs. and then went on to say that variation in production weights makes it pointless to post any weight specs on their boats. Needless to say, my BS meter was pegged the whole time I was talking to this guy. He was obviously fabricating "facts" on the fly.

And as it turns out my interest in an OK boat is all for naught. No OK dealers within 100 miles has either a T15 or T13.

Maybe I need to look at another boat.

It has been my experience that getting an accurate weight for any SOT from any MFG is nearly impossible.

In addition, while the amount of plastic used in the production of a given models is supposed to be uniform, after lifting many kayaks of the same model I can tell you I have experienced significant weight difference from boat to boat.  Many times while unpacking new boats myself and Jelly could be heard saying "this is a light one" or "this one is a tank".

SLO.

SLO = San Luis Obispo

I only know because I went to school there, otherwise I'd be clueless.
