Last Sunday, the Bean looked great when I got there. Sunny, not too bumpy. On the water at 7:30 with a mild breeze. Chased off by sheep and building seas by 9:45 though. Drifting at an average of about 1.2 mph even with a drift chute deployed. One Copper and an LDR for my efforts. There were definitely some big sets rolling through, but they were few and far between. Maybe every 5 minutes or so? Big enough to break on the reef about 1/4 of a mile from the launch. I estimate 8-10' faces? Beeg enough for me to be happy to be a few yards south. Launching and landing were entirely uneventful though. Water looked browner than I recall in the past.

Adam,

I was down here with the family to celebrate our niece's first birthday. The bean is a 40 minute drive over 84, so no big thang. I'd just have like the wind to stay down a bit longer.

As it was, the whole coast looked churned.

Lastly, to clarify, it was just the faces on the reef that were so immense. And most of the time, it looked completely innocuous. Almost paddled right over it when a set came through. Literally 30 or so yards away. I went over a good 5-6 foot "hump", but it was nowhere near breaking. I didn't observe anything nearly that big during launch and landing. But then I didn't sit there observing for 15-20 minutes either. Did a quick look out to sea to see if anything was coming, then just blazed in/out. Fast boats good.

Good luck to you guys, and yes, cross your fingers and hope for fog.

Scott

the southern bean has many of spots that go from 30-40' up to 15' and repeats for quit a stretch(when the water is clear enough, you can see the tops of them).....the swell looks like its gonna break, then it hits the 40' and flattens back down, ubtil it hits the rocky-shore.
At least you got a window to hit it.....and thanks for the kind jesture :smt004

I'm in for overnighting and fishing as long as I have someone to fish with and/or they kick me out of the parking lot.

Hard call on the weather, swell looks doable, and there's always the Pigeon Point launch if it's too windy at BH.

And I would like to say Hi to the Surf Fishing bros on Sat over at San Gregorio.

It's not all bad. I cashed in a lot of WAF to get to go on the Islander trip next week, so I'm thinking that it is a wiser choice to stick around the house this weekend helping out with cleaning the house and a few other chores. A small price to pay for the opportunity to go on a great trip... Good luck out there!

I was looking forward to fishing with you and Theresa, too....

But the Islander is a good trade off, I suppose!

I won't be able to sleep in my car so is there a place to set up a tent?
